Liberals fell for two obviously fake stories this week.

After the Dow Jones Industrial Average lost 1,000 points last week, Twitter user Shaun Usher posted a fake tweet that looked like it was posted by Donald Trump, claiming that if the “Dow Joans (sp) falls more than 100 ‘points’ in a Single Day the sitting president should be ‘loaded’ into a very big cannon and Shot into the sun at TREMENDOUS SPEED! No excuses!

He then made it explicitly clear that it was a fake tweet, and that it was never intended to be taken seriously.

Eventually, Snopes got in touch with him to “debunk” the story that never should’ve needed a debunking. Countless news outlets and blogs picked up the “story,” even though it only took a search of Trump’s tweets to fact check. Twitter even gives users an “advanced search” option where they can search for a specific user’s tweets through a specified set of dates. In other words, there was no excuse for anyone to actually believe this.

That was a fake story they fell for – but how about a story blaming Trump for something that Barack Obama was at fault for?

As the Washington Free Beacon reported,

A reporter’s misleading tweet went viral this week, spreading the false implication that President Donald Trump was deporting an innocent veteran.

Spencer Woodman, a reporter with the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists, received more than 35,000 retweets when he shared the story of Miguel Perez, who he framed as “a U.S. army veteran who served two tours of duty in Afghanistan and has two U.S. citizen children.” Twitter users–including several Democratic politicians–were outraged at the story of Perez’s impending deportation.

It’s outrageous! It’s inhumane! It’s……. a friggin lie!

Woodman’s tweet left off why the undocumented Perez was arrested: he was caught delivering cocaine to an undercover cop.

Perez was sentenced to 15 years in prison after he “handed a laptop case containing cocaine to an undercover officer” in 2008, according to the Chicago Tribune story Woodman linked to. Perez pleaded guilty to delivering less than 100 grams of cocaine, despite having been found with much more. He ultimately served half of that 15-year sentence.

“Prosecutors also pointed out that Perez was given a general discharge from the military after a drug infraction,” the Tribune reports.

That certainly changes things, doesn’t it?

Perhaps the outrage should be directed towards the question of how an illegal immigrant was able to join the armed forces.
