Liberal Group Plans To Spend Millions Attacking Trump’s Response To Coronavirus During Presidential Campaign

While Democrats will be blaming Trump for the coronavirus, these conservative groups will be putting everything they have into clearing the president's name when it comes to this health crisis.

A left-wing political organization has revealed that they are going to spend millions of dollars attacking President Donald Trump on the campaign trail for the way he has responded to the coronavirus.

Pacronym, a political action committee with ties to the liberal nonprofit Acronym, revealed in a Washington Post story that they will be spending $5 million on attacks on Trump for his coronavirus response. They reportedly believe that the coronavirus response will be the defining issue of this year’s presidential campaign.

“This is a public health issue and a national security issue, but it’s also a public policy issue and thus a political one,” explained Tara McGowan, the founder and chief executive of Acronym.

McGowan went on to call on other groups to make similar moves holding Trump accountable for his coronavirus response in the hopes of helping his opponent, who will likely be former Vice President Joe Biden (D-DE) or Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT).

Trump campaign communications director Tim Murtaugh fired back at this report by citing Biden’s response to the 2009 Swine flu pandemic, saying “it is laughable that his allies would launch this attack when Americans can see for themselves through daily public briefings that President Trump and his team are on the case and have been so since before Joe Biden even woke up to the situation.”

Pacronym’s campaign will focus on voters in the key battleground states of Wisconsin, Michigan, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and Arizona. The Post claimed that various other “Democrat-aligned” groups are planning similar campaigns that focus on attacking Trump over the coronavirus.

This comes as Biden and Sanders have been focusing their attention on hitting Trump’s coronavirus response. Last Thursday, they each held news conferences in which they specifically criticized Trump’s handling of the crisis.

Though five million dollars is a lot of money, it’s nothing compared to the funds available to the Trump campaign and the Republican National Committee, who recently announced that they raised nearly a half-billion dollars in 2019. While Democrats will be blaming Trump for the coronavirus, these conservative groups will be putting everything they have into clearing the president’s name when it comes to this health crisis.
