George Pataki Throws His Support Behind Kid Rock

Former governor of New York and Republican presidential candidate George Pataki is endorsing the idea of a Senate campaign bid for Kid Rock.

We know, we know. You’re asking yourself, ‘Who?’

Pataki was a rare Republican who managed to capture the governor’s mansion in far, far-left New York, serving the Empire State between 1995 and 2006. But he managed to get lost in a sea of far more charismatic candidates in the 2016 election.

He was a frequent critic of then-candidate Donald Trump, who’s bluster and candidness is matched by that of Kid Rock.

So it comes as a bit of a surprise that Pataki has endorsed him as “exactly the kind of candidate the GOP needs right now.”

We had to do a double take, wondering if Pataki might be punking everyone. It seems to be legit however, as the tweet points to an article about a Republican super PAC that has shown interest in a Kid Rock campaign.

Via the Washington Examiner:

Former New York Gov. George Pataki endorsed musician Kid Rock’s potential campaign to unseat incumbent Democratic Sen. Debbie Stabenow in Michigan next year.

“Kid Rock is exactly the kind of candidate the GOP needs right now. #KidRockForSenate @KidRock,” Pataki, a GOP candidate in the 2016 presidential election, tweeted Tuesday morning.

The Senate Leadership Fund has also expressed interest in helping Kid Rock, whose full name is Robert James Ritchie.

That super PAC formed during the 2016 election with the support of Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell.

Recent polls have shown that Ritchie has the lead in a hypothetical match up for the Senate seat against Stabenow.

About the only negative news thus far is that Ritchie may not be able to use his stage name during the election. Michigan rules may prohibit the name ‘Kid Rock’ from being used, raising the question of whether or not voters would recognize his real name on the ballot.

Still, Pataki’s support shows Kid Rock’s Senate run is a legitimate possibility, and he even has the backing of some establishment Republicans.

Maybe they’re coming around to the idea that candidates who show ‘fire and fury’ can defeat their Democrat counterparts.
