Kayleigh McEnany Torches Lori Lightfoot For Saying Her Critics Are Racist And Sexist

Kayleigh McEnany, the former White House press secretary for Donald Trump, spoke out this week to fire back at Chicago’s Democratic Mayor Lori Lightfoot for saying that 99% of her critics are racist and sexist.

When asked about the negativity she faces as mayor, Lightfoot said that “about 99%” of it is motivated by racism and sexism.

“Look at my predecessors,” she said. “…Women and people of color are always held to a different standard. I understand that. I’ve known that my whole life.”

Lightfoot went on to say that she is simply “fighting for the residents” of Chicago.

McEnany Fires Back

McEnany, however, was not having any of it. She pointed to the surging crime rate in Chicago as she responded to Lightfoot.

“I want to put up a cover that has haunted me ever since I saw it. It’s from last July of The New York Post,” McEnany told Fox News. “I’ll never forget seeing this. This was Davell Gardner. He was a 1-year-old at a barbecue when he lost his life, and that is his casket there.”

“And you see, it’s colorful, Cocomelon, it’s a cartoon that my daughter watches… This little boy, at 1-year-old, lost his life at a barbecue. And his dad said this: ‘It just hurts. My son is gone. I don’t have nobody. I don’t have somebody to call me daddy, daddy, daddy,'” McEnany added.

“These are human lives. Where is the ‘Children’s Lives Matter?'” she continued. “I want that organization to start because this has been happening for more than a year, and blaming this on racism or negative coverage and calling me a ‘Karen’ as Mayor Lori Lightfoot did. That doesn’t solve problems. Let’s come together, right and left, because I don’t want to see another casket like that of Davell Gardner.”

Lightfoot Gets Attacked

This comes after Raymond Lopez, alderman for Chicago’s 15th ward, also called out Lightfoot for the surge in crime in the city.

“Lori Lightfoot has been saying that calls for answers about violence and how we’re addressing the nonstop bloodshed on our streets was a stunt. It was political. It was a joke to her,” he said. “It was the diversion. She’s never taken this seriously.”

“And 19 aldermen have asked for this meeting so that we can get answers. Our superintendent clearly is not up to the job,” Lopez added. “The mayor is not up to the job to keep the city of Chicago safe. And we want her on record, not in a backroom meeting.”

“We want her on record to explain how she’s going to keep Chicagoans safe,” Lopez continued. “We have seen mass shootings on the rise. We had a shooting in front of my house yesterday by gang bangers checking someone who just happened to come home with his girlfriend. It is out of control, and we need to get some results that keep people safe.”

“My constituents and people generally throughout the city of Chicago are afraid,” he stated. “We’ve seen time and again where just standing in front of your own home can get you killed. They don’t see a cohesive strategy.”

“We see that our police officers are being overworked, no days off – 12-, 15-, 17-hour shifts, weeks at a time,” Lopez concluded. “All the while not being able to arrest people, not being able to chase people, not being able to do their job. And our residents want answers.”
