Report: NFL Source Claims Kaepernick Turned Down Deal to Push Race Story

Turn on any sports talk show the past few weeks and they’ll all eventually discuss one hot story – why has Colin Kaepernick not been signed by an NFL team?

ESPN radio has had guest after guest analyzing the situation, with a majority of them concluding that Kaepernick is the victim of his anti-police, anti-national anthem protests.

They’ll even go so far as to suggest the NFL’s rich (read – white) owners don’t want him because of his politics.

In fact, ESPN has recently been pushing a story that the owner of the Baltimore Ravens, a team that needs a backup quarterback, has put a squash on signing Kaepernick over objections by their coach and general manager. An assertion that the general manager himself has denied.

Now, one NFL inside source claims that the controversy over the alleged refusal of teams to sign Kaepernick is much ado about nothing. He asserts that the polarizing quarterback has turned down a contract with one team, meaning he is the only one to blame for his unemployed status.

The same source believes Kaepernick is intentionally turning down offers so he can play the race card – which is exactly what ESPN talking heads have been pushing.

“Colin thinks he’s fighting a much higher battle than he is,” the source told the Daily Caller. “He views himself as a race messiah.”

Colin Kaepernick is still a free agent, and an NFL inside source told The Daily Caller Monday that the former 49ers quarterback has no one but himself to blame.

Despite the ongoing narrative that Kaepernick’s very public political views are preventing any NFL teams from offering him a roster spot, TheDC’s source claims Kaep himself has turned down at least one contract in the hopes of stirring up a media frenzy that eventually leads to a more lucrative deal for the 27 year old vet.

Kaepernick allegedly doesn’t want to make “backup money” and specifically instructed his representative team not to sign one contract offered at the league’s minimum rate of $900,000 per year for a seventh-year player.

Suffice it to say, a guy that played backup for a good chunk of a season that saw his team win a grand total of 2 games, would reasonably be looking at ‘backup money’ and a league minimum salary.

Kaepernick would be playing in the NFL right now had he accepted that reality and didn’t try to further his race agenda.

It’s also worth noting that the contract refusal alleged by the NFL source isn’t the only one Kaepernick turned down to play in the NFL.

He originally gave up a $14.5 million contract with the 49ers, the team he played for last season, to enter the free agent market.

Seems Kaepernick is indeed trying to play the ‘race messiah,’ making a political stand over actually wanting to play in the NFL. Maybe that’s why the owners want nothing to do with him.
