Jordan’s Jab at Schiff Is Maybe the Most Memorable of the Hearings So Far

'Our indulgence wore out with you a long time ago' — check this out

It only took a few seconds — but when Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) pushed back at Rep. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) during the Friday impeachment inquiry hearings, people took notice.

His remarks are still reverberating a full day after — and likely will for some time.

Jordan, a member now of the House Intelligence Committee who has been taking part in the questioning of witnesses during the public hearings thus far, was trying to ask a question of Marie Yovanovitch, former ambassador to Ukraine.

It was an important question with important implications.

He was also trying to point out that President Donald Trump had a legitimate concern about corruption in Ukraine — and raised it, as part of his duty as president of the United States.

And while he was in the middle of his question to Yovanovitch, Schiff — chair of the committee — tried to cut him off and tell him he was just about out of time.

Jordan tried to clarify his question with the bit of indulgence the Schiff gave him to finish his thought — and merely wanted the witness to clearly understand what he was asking.

And then, while he was talking, Schiff interrupted and said to Jordan, “I have indulged you with extra time—”

“I appreciate it,” said Jordan, trying to finish his question.

“But indulgence is wearing out,” said Schiff with some pomposity.

And that’s when Jordan couldn’t resist getting a dig in.

“Our indulgence wore out with you a long time ago, Mr. Chairman, I will tell you that,” put in Jordan.

The crowd in the hearing room could be heard reacting to that.

“I’m about to gavel you down,” put in Schiff — and more.
