Democrats Delayed Document Dump On Kavanaugh Is A ‘Question Of Fairness,’ Says Professor Jonathan Turley

George Washington University Law professor Jonathan Turley said Congressional Democrats will face a “question of fairness,” over how they’ve handled sexual assault allegations against Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh.

Turley claimed the fight to confirm justices is nothing new, but said Democrats will face an inquiry about why they held back the Kavanaugh documents for so long.

“This issue is going to obviously going to get much uglier, very quickly,” Turley said on “Morning Joe” Monday.

Kavanaugh was accused by Christine Blasey Ford of forcing himself on her at a party back in high school, while he allegedly groped her and tried to remove her clothing.

“You have the White House digging in. You have the Democrats, I think rightfully believing that they might be able to delay or defeat this nominee. There will be a question of fairness. You know, how do we thread this procedural needle? You know, the Democrats supposedly had this since July. And there’s going to be a lot of question of why they held it.”

Turley said Democrats may have held on to the documents to prevent President Donald Trump from appointing someone to the high court before the midterm elections.

“By holding it, they made it more difficult for President Trump, if Kavanaugh should fail, to appoint another conservative before the midterms,” he said. “Then we’re looking at a potentially new game after the midterms. So there’s going to be a lot of accusations going back and forth today about the timing and the basis of the allegations.”

“If there’s a hearing held and I think there’s a good likelihood of that if Dr. Ford is willing to do it, there’s going to be a great number of questions asked. Whether she spoke to any friends at that time. Whether there’s any contemporary witnesses that might be able to corroborate it — To counter the statements of Mark Judge and obviously Judge Kavanaugh,” Turley concluded.
