Joe Scarborough Claims Republicans Are Making Liz Cheney An Alternative For ‘Conservatives’ Like Me

Scarborough Cheney

On Thursday morning’s episode of the MSNBC talk show “Morning Joe,” host Joe Scarborough gave his thoughts on the growing calls to oust Rep. Liz Cheney’s (R-WY) ouster from her role as the chairwoman of the House Republican Conference.

Calls have been growing to remove Cheney from her leadership position ever since she voted in favor of impeaching former President Donald Trump earlier this year.

Cheney Discusses Liz Cheney

“It’s very funny,” Scarborough said. “I keep seeing these liberals writing op-eds going, ‘We don’t like you, Liz Cheney. What you’re doing is a good thing, but we don’t like you.’ The Cheneys don’t give a damn whether liberals like them or not.”

“You don’t call Dick Cheney, her father, a war criminal for like two decades and then like worry about whether Liz Cheney is liking you or not,” he added. “She doesn’t. Like, Liz is doing this because this is what Liz believes.”

Scarborough went on to lament that Republicans keep “turning” toward Trump before suggesting that the GOP is “playing right into Liz Cheney’s hands” by making her an alternative that conservative voters like himself could vote for.

Scarborough Criticizes Republicans

“They just keep turning that golf cart in towards Donald Trump,” Scarborough claimed. “Nobody has ever jerked it the other way.”

“And I just wonder if they’re not playing right into Liz Cheney’s hands, ultimately, by making her actually the alternative that people like me and suburban voters in Atlanta and suburban voters in Maricopa County don’t look at Liz Cheney and say, ‘Oh, OK, there’s somebody that believes in small government, there’s somebody that believes in traditional foreign policy. Yeah, sounds OK to me,'” he added.

Scarborough And Brzezinski Attack Trump

This comes a day after Scarborough’s cohost and wife Mika Brzezinski accused Trump of taking the GOP “hostage” as she reacted to a Wall Street Journal op-ed entitled, “Purging Liz Cheney.”

“Joe, it just goes back to our lead story, and how serious it is — what this judge has said about the Trump presidency, about the Mueller report that the president with the help of the attorney general used the Mueller report to drum up hate, to foment anger, and it all led up to January 6, and by the way, took the Republican Party hostage, and they are choosing to stay there,” she said.

Scarborough then chimed in to attack Republicans, saying, “they’re continuing to lie about the 2020 election when everybody knows they’re lying about the 2020 election.”

After touting what he described as Cheney’s conservative voting record, Scarborough added, “This is madness.”
