Ilhan Omar Demands Release of ICE Detainees During Coronavirus Pandemic

Rep Ilhan Omar tweeted on Tuesday that ICE detainees should be released and a moratorium placed on new low risk incarcerations during the coronavirus outbreak.

Omar: “We Need to Release ICE Detainees”

“We need to release ICE detainees, people held on bail, and anyone qualifies for work release,” Omar tweeted. “We need a moratorium on incarcerating people who are low risk to others. We need an increase in medical staff in prison and jails,” she continued, adding that “incarcerated individuals deserve our humanity too.”

It follows a letter that Omar authored on Tuesday to House leadership, and signed by 14 other representatives, that demanded protection for refugees and asylum seekers during the coronavirus pandemic. The letter requested an extra $350 million in Migration and Refugee Assistance funds to go to the State Department, and an extra $462 million of Refugee and Entrant Assistance funding for Office of Refugee Resettlement.

“This funding is critical to ensuring that recent refugee and special immigrant arrivals receive direct assistance, such as cash and medical assistance, housing/rent, utilities, transportation, food, and health needs unavailable through normally operating public channels,” Omar argued, going on to add:

Refugees, special immigrants, and immigrant visa applicants are important members of American communities. Refugees are the most vetted travelers to the United States and face rigorous security checks that take years to complete. Further, immigrants often wait for years and go to great lengths and expense to obtain visas to enter the United States… Now is the time to ensure that we do not turn our backs on those we promised to welcome.

The Democrats Are Exploiting This Crisis!

Like many on the left, Ilhan Omar is using the coronavirus pandemic to push her own anti-America agenda forward. Senate Leader Mitch McConnell slammed the Democratic leadership for including environmental regulations and tax credits for renewable energies, along with other items on their “wish list,” in the coronavirus relief bill.

The Democrat House Whip James Clyburn said that the crisis is “a tremendous opportunity to restrict things to fit our vision,” and clearly Omar agrees! We should be working across the aisle to not push a partisan agenda, and instead help protect American citizens, but, as usual, the radical Democrats have no comprehension of working with “the other side.”
