The Democratic Party’s House campaign committee announced it has redirected more than $23,000 in donations from movie mogul Harvey Weinstein in the wake of sexual assault allegations.

The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) confirmed it has donated $23,225 — the amount that Weinstein has contributed to the committee since 1993 — to a non-profit that advocates for women and children who are victims of domestic violence.

“The DCCC has already cut the check to donate all old Harvey Weinstein money to Futures Without Violence,” Meredith Kelly, a spokeswoman for the DCC, told The Washington Post in a statement Tuesday.

Following further revelations in The New Yorker of Weinstein’s decades-long abuse of actresses and other women in the film industry Tuesday, the National Republican Campaign Committee (NRCC) initiated a campaign to push Democrats to return all the “dirty money” the party has received over the years.

“In light of these allegations, it’s time for Democrats to return Harvey Weinstein’s dirty money,” NRCC spokesman Matt Gorman told The Hill in a statement. “The DCCC’s silence is unconscionable and they cannot excuse years of abuse by one of their donors.”

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer and other Democrats in Congress will donate money they received from Weinstein, and the Democratic National Committee (DNC) announced last week that it will donate more than $30,000 to women’s groups. Weinstein donated $246,290 to the national committee since 1994, according to the conservative America Rising PAC.

“The Democratic Party condemns all forms of sexual harassment and assault,” Xochitl Hinojosa, DNC communications director said in an emailed statement last week. “We hope that Republicans will do the same as we mark one year since the release of a tape showing President Trump bragging about sexually assaulting women followed by more than a dozen women who came forward to detail similar experiences of assault and harassment.”
Weinstein slipped out of the country Tuesday evening bound for a sex addiction rehab center somewhere in Europe, according to Hollywood gossip magazine TMZ.
