Update: Hillary’s Not Out of Trouble Yet

Hillary Clinton emails

In the wake of the FBI’s report and testimony involving Hillary Clinton’s mishandling of classified material on a private server, the State Department has announced that they’re reopening an internal investigation into the former Secretary of State and her top aides.

The initial investigation by the State Department was paused when the FBI took on their own effort to research Clinton’s e-mails.

Now, this new effort could spell trouble for Hillary and her aides, leading to several having security clearances revoked. If that happens, many of her closest confidantes would be unable to serve in her administration should she become president.

The State Department is re-opening an internal investigation into whether Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton and her top aides mishandled classified information, Fox News confirmed late Thursday.

The investigation, which was first reported by the Associated Press, focuses on how classified emails to and from Clinton’s private server were categorized at the time they were sent.

The State Department started its review in January after declaring 22 emails from Clinton’s private server to be “top secret.” The investigation was halted after the FBI began investigating Clinton’s so-called “homebrew” email setup last April. On Wednesday, Attorney General Loretta Lynch said there would be no indictments resulting from the FBI probe.

“Given the Department of Justice has now made its announcement, the State Department intends to conduct its internal review,” State Department spokesman John Kirby said in a statement. “Our goal will be to be as transparent as possible about our results, while complying with our various legal obligations.”

Kirby explained that former officials could face “administrative sanctions,” of which the most serious would involve loss of security clearances. Such sanctions would make it difficult for Clinton to name a national security team that includes those top aides.

Marco Rubio (R-FL) and other congressional Republicans would also like to see Clinton herself stripped of security clearances.

“We believe that is clear from Director Comey’s statement and the FBI investigation that the State Department should immediately suspend the clearances of Hillary Clinton, Huma Abedin, Cheryl Mills, Jake Sullivan, and other former State Department employees for security violations if they still maintain them,” the senators wrote in a letter sent out by Rubio’s office.

In the end, one has to wonder why they’d reopen this case in the first place. America got to witness the Clintons get away with breaking the law earlier this week, and will likely skate again in this investigation.

Perhaps one of her aides will get hit with sanctions in an effort to appease a public that is disgusted with Hillary consistently being above the law.
