Hillary Hasn’t Closed the Door to a 2020 Run

New reports emerge that the longtime Democrat may again be considering another swing for the White House

Hillary Clinton, the failed Democratic candidate for president in 2016, apparently has indicated she has not yet closed the door to making another run for the White House.

Jeff Zeleny, formerly of ABC News and The New York Times and now a CNN White House correspondent, shared that nugget during a segment on “Inside Politics” on the network over the weekend.

Zeleny said he’d heard from a number of sources this past week that Mrs. Clinton is still considering challenging President Donald Trump in the 2020 election.

“I’m told by three people that as recently as this week, she was telling people that look, given all this news from the indictments, particularly the Roger Stone indictment, she talked to several people, saying, ‘Look, I’m not closing the doors to this,’” Zeleny said.

But Zeleny also said, “It does not mean that there’s a campaign-in-waiting, or a plan in the works.”

Also, separately, Mrs. Clinton apparently has been meeting with a number of possible candidates for the 2020 Democratic presidential nominee, a process that is believed to have been going on for months, Fox News reported recently.

Candidates including Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.), Sen. Cory Booker (D-N.J.), Colorado Gov. John Hickenlooper, and L.A. Mayor Eric Garcetti have met with the 2016 nominee, according to Axios. She apparently has meetings scheduled with other individuals as well.

“A bunch have picked her brain,” a longtime Clinton confidant noted, as Fox News reported.

It wasn’t that long ago — back in November, in fact — that a former adviser to the Clintons, Mark Penn, said he believed that Hillary Clinton would make another run for the presidency and that she had her sights set on 2020.

Penn co-wrote an op-ed for The Wall Street Journal along with Andrew Stein, a former Democratic Manhattan borough president and president of the New York City Council.

The duo’s piece detailed the new reasons the failed 2016 presidential candidate and former secretary of state might again be seeking the highest office in the land.

It largely has to do with revenge, it appears — and the notion that she does not want to fade away with an F for “failure” next to her name if she can help it.

“True to her name, Mrs. Clinton will fight this out until the last dog dies,” the pair wrote two months ago.

“She won’t let a little thing like two stunning defeats stand in the way of her claim to the White House.”

As the pair also said, in part, “Mrs. Clinton has a 75 percent approval rating among Democrats, an unfinished mission to be the first female president, and a personal grievance against Mr. Trump, whose supporters pilloried her with chants of ‘Lock her up!’ This must be avenged.”

“Expect Hillary 4.0 to come out swinging,” they also declared.
