This is Exactly Why Sanctuary Cities Are So Absurd

Did you know that you can just pick and choose whatever laws you want to follow in America? Well, you as a private citizen don’t have that power, but if you’re lucky enough to be elected into your local government, you can pick and choose whatever federal laws you want to obey – at least in regards to immigration.

There are over 300 “sanctuary cities” or counties – those that won’t report illegal immigrants to federal authorities. Some sanctuaries like New York City go a step further, and won’t even report illegals for committing crimes, including drunk driving.

President Trump tried to stop this, but an activist judge got in the way.

As you’d imagine, illegals flock to such sanctuaries, with one estimate that ten sanctuary cities house 20% of the U.S.’s illegal immigrants. As for the consequences of illegal immigration, we’re all aware of the most commonly cited ones: displaced American jobs, and lower wages due to intense competition from the influx of low-skilled workers. And then there’s the crime element, and those statistics are shocking:

  • Between 2008 and 2014, 40% of all murder convictions in Florida were criminal aliens. In New York it was 34% and Arizona 17.8%.
  • During those years, criminal aliens accounted for 38% of all murder convictions in the five states of California, Texas, Arizona, Florida and New York, while illegal aliens constitute only 5.6% of the total population in those states.
  • That 38% represents 7,085 murders out of the total of 18,643.

So with the evidence considered, how could anyone possibly think that sanctuary cities are a good idea? Outside of liberal guilt, there’s really no explanation for it.

Can you imagine what would happen if you treated the laws the same way a sanctuary city did?

What if kids decided they were going to decide which rules to follow?

This cartoon nails it perfectly!

While no President dared go after them in the past, among the Executive Orders that President Donald Trump has signed is one threatening the federal funding of sanctuary cities, unless they relinquish their sanctuary status. Miami has caved thus far, while other cities like NYC and San Francisco have reiterated that they’ll be keeping their sanctuary status. Seven billion dollars is at risk for NYC alone.

Texas Governor Greg Abbott is on Trump’s side, aiding in cracking down on sanctuary cities. Thus far, he’s blocked State funding to Austin over their sanctuary status.

Part of me hopes they all try to keep their sanctuary statuses so we don’t have to pay them any more of our tax dollars.
