Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer (D) has just lifted a COVID-19 restriction that she was caught on camera breaking this past weekend.
On Saturday, a photo came out showing Whitmer and her chief operations officer sitting with around a dozen people at a bar in East Lansing.
This was a clear violation of restrictions she’d placed on Michiganders, as she’s barred groups from intermingling and said that no more than six individuals may sit at the same table in restaurants.
Clearly, Whitmer does not think those rules should apply to her.

The photo quickly went viral, and Whitmer reacted on Sunday by issuing a brief apology.
“Throughout the pandemic, I’ve been committed to following public health protocols,” she said, according to The Blaze.
“Yesterday, I went with friends to a local restaurant. As more people arrived, the tables were pushed together,” Whitmer continued. “Because we were all vaccinated, we didn’t stop to think about it. In retrospect, I should have thought about it. I am human. I made a mistake, and I apologize.”

Whitmer went on to lift the rule entirely on Monday, although she tried to make it seem as if she’d been planning to do so since before she broke the restriction herself.
“Today, Whitmer rescinded the rules that limited the number of people at a table to 6, a rule she was seen breaking over the weekend. I asked about how long she’s been considering that rule change – she said it’s been in the works long before last weekend,” tweeted WWMT-TV reporter Rachel Louise.
Whitmer has become infamous among many over the past year for enacting some of the strictest COVID-19 restrictions in the country, and she’s been caught breaking her own rules multiple times.
Just last month, it was revealed that she’d taken a private jet to Florida despite urging Michiganders not to travel and blaming travel to Florida for the spike in coronavirus cases in her state.
Last May, Whitmer’s husband allegedly tried to use her position as governor to gain preferential treatment to get his boat in the water at their vacation home, even though the governor had warned others not to travel to the area due to the pandemic.
“Rules for thee but not for me” indeed.
