Republicans Prepare to Vote on Graham-Cassidy Obamacare Repeal Bill

Remember when congressional Republicans promised us that they’d have an Obamacare repeal bill on President Trump’s desk his first day in office? That claim was a tad ambitious in hindsight.

There have technically been two Obamacare repeal attempts so far during the Trump presidency. There was the first attempt in late June, which concluded with Congress delaying the vote. The delay occurred because the same Republicans who had no problem voting to repeal Obamacare when Obama was in office all of a sudden had second thoughts now that they actually had the power to repeal the law without the threat of an inevitable veto.

Then there was the actual vote held in July for a “skinny repeal,” and even that couldn’t pass, thanks in part to quintessential RINO John McCain. He lost to Obama in 2008, and then lost us the repeal of Obama’s signature piece of legislation. What a combo.

But it turns out that not all hope is lost. Republicans are still pushing forward with a new Obamacare repeal bill, which was drafted by senators Lindsey Graham (R-SC) and Bill Cassidy (R-LA).

According to the Washington Times, “Senate Republicans pushing to replace Obamacare with state block grants are making real noise before their window to act closes, insisting they are just one or two votes shy and that President Trump can nudge their last-gasp bill to victory.”

Sen. Cassidy says that Senate Republicans believe “that we can get this done by Sept. 30.” The senator also says the informal whip count stands at “48 or 49” Republican votes. They only need a couple more Republicans to seal the deal.

One of the reasons the Graham-Cassidy bill needs to pass by Sept. 30 is that the reconciliation process that allows the bill to pass by a bare majority expires at the end of the month.

Time is ticking, and Republicans still want to make good on their promise to repeal Obamacare.

Even so, it’s hard to be optimistic in light of recent failures, but Senate Democrats appear panicked.

Perhaps that’s because John McCain may actually vote for the bill this time around:

Rep. Mark Meadows of the ultra conservative Freedom Caucus guarantees that the House of Representatives will pass Graham-Cassidy once it gets through the Senate.

Can we FINALLY repeal ObamaCare? Tell us your thoughts on the subject below and share this story on Facebook and Twitter!

  • There are individual GOP senators who are deeply frustrated by the leadership, including that fat old bull frog who does nothing but croak and eat flies, Addison Mitchell McConnell, Jr. They are forming ad hoc coalitions around stalled priorities, lobbying for them, whipping the vote, and then handing them to the leadership as a fait accompli. Allow enough these to succeed and you have a leadership fight. And I think that's where we are headed.

  • I think it want get passed because there are to many republicans that are scared of the democrats in congress.Obama pushed them around like puppets so don't be expecting anything on a new health care bill. The people of this country may as well get ready to pay out your ass for insurance, or not have insurance, Just that damn simple.!!!!!

  • This bill does NOT do away with ANY of the Obozocare regulations & keeps over 90% of the taxes. I wrote all three of my senators/representatives to encourage them to vote NO. This is NOT a good solution at all by the Rhino's. They need to do far better than this crap! They should all lose their benefits until they come up with a better solution & even then they should have the same plans Americans are offered. Email your senators & representatives to vote NO!

  • We need a law to put a stop to voting on a bill over 50 times wasting taxpayers money so they can pander to the uninformed voters.

  • We are the only one of 65 developed countries without universal healthcare. We pay twice as much for medical and prescriptions as most other countries, with a lower life expectancy and and higher birth mortality than other countries. Because if you don't have insurance then they let a sick infant die. I have seen it happen. Under ACA health cost increased less than 2% a year, the lowest in history. With what republicans are proposing there will be a 20%+ increase. They have already stole $888 Billion from Medicaid to give to the wealthy. They all did not know about the collusion with russia so they knew they had no chance of winning the election so they had not given a thought to what they would do with health care if they had the chance. It was voted down so republicans change the rules again and after enough bribes they will try again. And then the whole country will be paying the price. No let me correct that the rich have been proven to pay less than 13% tax unless they don't pay any for 22 years, it will be the poor and middle class that pay for it. But it will be the end of the poor uneducated republican voters as they get a taste of republicans having all the control of government. We are already paying in red states, just research Kansas tricked down policy.

  • We want a full repeal. No replacement. THAT'S what we elected Trump and the Republicans to do. That's what they promised. How many full repeals without replacement did the Republicans pass when Obama was President and they knew he would veto them? Were those just a play to gain political power? contact your congressmen and women. Demand the full repeal without replacement that they promised. Threaten them with getting primaried out of office if they don't comply with the wishes of the people in their states and districts.

  • McCain will be wheeled to the Senate floor in a Gurney just to vote against whatever Trump has proposed. The man is a POS.
