Gowdy Launches Investigation Into Obama DOJ’s Handling of Hillary Email Scandal

Congressmen Trey Gowdy and Bob Goodlatte have announced a joint investigation into the Obama DOJ’s handling of the Hillary Clinton email scandal.

Gowdy, the House Oversight Committee Chairman and Goodlatte, House Judiciary Committee Chairman, issued a statement saying their respective committees would join efforts in investigating decisions made by the FBI during their review of the Clinton case.

In doing so, they warned that no department is above reproach.

“The law is the most equalizing force in this country,” the pair’s statement reads. “No entity or individual is exempt from oversight.”

The probe seeks to understand why the FBI was so willing to provide the public updates on the Clinton investigation – including formal letters to Congress in October and November of 2016 – but kept investigations into former Trump aides under wraps.

The investigation will also look into the timeline behind how the FBI, then under the direction of James Comey, came to their decision to exonerate Clinton.

“The Committees will review these decisions and others to better understand the reasoning behind how certain conclusions were drawn,” Goodlatte and Gowdy said.

That statement appears to be a direct reference to recent revelations that Comey drafted his letter clearing Hillary of any criminal wrongdoing long before interviewing her and 17 other witnesses.

In a letter written in late August by Sen. Chuck Grassley and Sen. Lindsey Graham to FBI Director Chris Wray, the congressmen claimed to have seen evidence showing Comey began drawing up statements on closing the investigation months before he cleared Clinton.

The draft was initiated prior to the bureau interviewing 17 key witnesses in the case – including the subject of the investigation!

“Conclusion first, fact-gathering second,” the senators accused.

Now finally, there will be an investigation into the investigation.

“Decisions made by the Department of Justice in 2016 have led to a host of outstanding questions that must be answered,” Gowdy and Goodlatte stated.

The only outstanding questions now are, what took so long and will we finally see somebody punished for this corruption?
