Now this one comes as a surprise.

Radio host, author, poet, and humorist Garrison Keillor is the latest entertainer to see his career ended after allegations of inappropriate behavior.

The news comes via the Associated Press:

Here are more details: “Keillor told The Associated Press of his firing in an email. In a follow-up statement, he says he was fired over ‘a story that I think is more interesting and more complicated than the version MPR heard.'”

Garrison was the popular host of the classic “The Prairie Home Companion” and his audio dispatches from the fictional Lake Wobegon:

Curiously, Keillor wrote an editorial for The Washington Post yesterday, defending Senator Al Franken, who has been accused of sexual misconduct but has refused to resign. Keillor called the notion that Franken should resign “pure absurdity.”

The timing couldn’t be more coincidental. One day after, the showman was relieved of his job over misconduct.

People expressed surprise and dismay over the news on Twitter:

These revelations are pretty stunning. Keillor’s never been more than a wisecrack dispensing homespun wisdom. His persona was harmless. And yet here we are. In the post-Weinstein era, it seems, nobody is safe. The dirty past is being unearthed, warts and all.

We’re still waiting on details as to Keillor’s exact actions that led to the firing. I imagine they’ll be disturbing to long-time fans.

What a sad way to end an entertainment career. But if Keillor is guilty of mistreating women, this may be for the best.
