Fox to Introduce Streaming Service for “SuperFans”

As CNN’s ratings slide, resulting in fifty recent layoffs at the network, Fox News is expanding with a streaming service for their “superfans” to keep up with demand.

The number of those subscribed to streaming services has recently eclipsed those subscribed to cable, and Fox is looking to adapt to this trend that shows no sign of stopping.

According to the Daily Caller,

The online subscription service, “Fox Nation,” will feature hours of daily streaming with new anchors and new shows. Fox News stars such as Sean Hannity are also supposed to appear on the subscription streaming service.

The service will reportedly be ready by the end of 2018 and will appeal to those who watch Fox News every day and night for hours at a time.

“Fox Nation is designed to appeal to the Fox superfan,” John Finley, who oversees program development and production for Fox News, said in an interview with The New York Times. “These are the folks who watch Fox News every night for hours at a time, the dedicated audience that really wants more of what we have to offer.”

Fox News viewers “value our product so much, they go to hotels and if they can’t have Fox, they send us emails. They go on cruises, and if they can’t have Fox, they send us emails,” Finley said. “This is a way for us to meet that demand.”

The content on the streaming service will not overlap at all with what’s currently on Fox News. Instead, Fox plans to develop hours of new daily programming with entirely new anchors and commentators.

Fox News has defied the downward trends in the television business, notching its highest-rated year in 2017, even as audiences dwindled for many networks. As a result, at the end of last January, Fox became the most-watched cable news channel for 16 consecutive years.
