Fox News Meteorologist and contributor Janice Dean slammed New York Governor Cuomo over a nursing home policy that she believes helped lead to the coronavirus deaths of her in-laws.
Dean, whose husband’s parents were both victims of COVID-19, said that “at first we didn’t blame anyone for my in-laws’ deaths.”
“This is a pandemic, after all,” she wrote in an op-ed column for USA Today. “Then we learned about a policy that put them in danger.”
That policy was a March 25th executive order which forced nursing homes to take on patients that had tested positive for coronavirus. An order which prohibited nursing homes from requiring incoming patients “to be tested for COVID-19 prior to admission or readmission.”
Cuomo refused to reverse the directive for over six weeks while well over 6,500 senior citizens succumbed to the virus.

‘My Family Didn’t Have to Die’
Dean went on to slam Cuomo for taking a veritable victory lap now that the dust has cleared and New York is starting to see a lull in COVID-19 cases.

The latest statistics show the Empire State suffered 32,218 deaths from the virus, more than the next three states combined.
Dean criticized him for releasing a self-drawn poster – which he is actually selling – honoring his pandemic response, and for an interview segment with brother Chris Cuomo in which the pair joked about the size of his nose.
“Last week, the governor held a press conference to reveal his poster,” she explained. “It’s a picture of a mountain that represents the deadly ‘curve’ found on a graph depicting more than 32,000 deaths in New York state.”
“There are plenty of inside jokes on his mountain of death including a cartoon drawing of presumably his daughter’s boyfriend hanging off a cliff, the governor’s fancy sports car that he likes to pose with on Instagram and a giant nose with a cotton swab inside of it,” she said providing more detail.
Awww. @NYGovCuomo is auditioning for a new comedy show with @ChrisCuomo on @CNN. Of course the Gov didn’t address the thousands of deaths from COVID-19 in nursing homes in New York. (Roughly 20 percent of all deaths in our state). Enjoy the giant swab! https://t.co/U5Yl487oUm

While the Cuomo brothers have been living it up and the governor has had the opportunity to paint posters and sculpt mountains (you read that correctly), Dean and her family have been in mourning.
Under the sub-heading “My family didn’t have to die,” she writes that “many of us aren’t laughing.”
“The death toll in our senior living facilities in New York alone was bigger than 9/11 and Hurricane Katrina combined. Where is the outrage?” she demanded to know.
“This should not be about politics. It’s about accountability for what happened to our parents and grandparents, who trusted us to look out for them.”
Dean took a jab at Cuomo over the ridiculous pandemic-time slogan New York has been using to show how great the administration has been during the outbreak: ‘New York Tough.’
“My in-laws Mickey and Dee Newman were New York tough,” she concluded. “The governor? He’s as weak as they come.”
