Former Trump Chief Of Staff Mark Meadows Is Now Cooperating With January 6 Committee

Mark Meadows Has Change Of Heart, Is Now Cooperating With Jan. 6 Committee

Former White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows has appeared to have done a turn around, and will now cooperate with the House Select Committee investigating the riot at the Capitol on January 6.

Meadows was one of a number of high profile former Trump administration officials who had been subpoenaed to testify before the committee, which Meadows had initially defied.

Contempt Of Congress

Mark Meadows was not the only former Trump official prepared to tell the committee to go pound sand. Former Trump advisor Steve Bannon also stated he would not cooperate with the committee.

He has since been charged with one count of defying a subpoena and another charged related to producing documents requested by the committee.

Meadows attorney, in a statement to CNN, said that that Meadows has given in and agreed to turn over information to the Democrat committee.

Committee Chairman Rep. Bennie Thompson (D-MS) said of possible contempt charges against Meadows,

“The Select Committee expects all witnesses, including Mr. Meadows, to provide all information requested and that the Select Committee is lawfully entitled to receive. The committee will continue to assess his degree of compliance with our subpoena after the deposition.”

They May Have Picked The Wrong Guy In Bannon

While Mark Meadows may appear to be mild-mannered and willing to cooperate, they may have bitten off a bit more than they can chew with Steve Bannon.

Last month, Bannon turned himself into the Washington, D.C. FBI office after being indicted on a charge of contempt of Congress. Bannon flatly refused to comply with a subpoena and cited executive privilege.

Bannon, a well-known conservative firebrand and ally of President Trump, declared war: “I’m telling you right now, this is going to be the misdemeanor from hell for Merrick GarlandNancy Pelosi and Joe Biden. … We’re going on the offense. They took on the wrong guy this time; they took on the wrong guys.”

Political ‘Witch Hunt’ For Trump Allies

Commentators on the right have described the committee as a witch hunt, and so far dozens of people have been subpoenaed

In addition to Bannon and Meadows, former senior Trump advisor Stephen Miller, former White House Deputy Chief of Staff Christopher Liddell, former national security advisor to Vice President Mike Pence, Keith Kellogg have been called before the committee.

Also included on the subpoena list, former White House Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnany.

There have been roughly 35 former Trump administration members subpoenaed by the Jan 6 committee in connection with the violence at the Capitol on Jan. 6.
