FBI Had Informant In Capitol Riot Crowd, He Denies Attack Was Planned

A New York Times report indicates the FBI had an informant planted in the crowd at the January 6 Capitol riot.

A New York Times report indicates the FBI had an informant planted in the crowd at the January 6 Capitol riot, based on confidential records they obtained.

“The bureau had an informant in the crowd,” the Times writes, “providing an inside glimpse of the action.”

They further add that the informant was affiliated with the Proud Boys.

At least three dozen members or followers of the Proud Boys have been charged in the Capitol riot, according to NBC News.

The FBI informant insists that the events unfolded spontaneously as part of a “mob consumed by a herd mentality rather than carrying out any type of preplanned attack.”

The declaration puts a crimp in the plans of the January 6 committee which is ‘investigating’ Republican lawmakers and family members of former President Donald Trump for their alleged role in the riot.

It also raises questions about what role the FBI and law enforcement had in the incident.

FBI Informant Took Part In Capitol Riot

According to the report, the FBI informant actually took part in the Capitol riot, entering the building “after debating whether to do so with his compatriots.”

He “left through a window,” after learning that somebody had been shot, according to the newspaper, “possibly the pro-Trump rioter Ashli Babbitt.”

Unarmed Air Force veteran Ashli Babbitt was the only person killed that day, after she was shot by Capitol Police Lt. Michael Byrd.

The FBI issued a statement on the matter which focuses on their mission.

“While the F.B.I.’s standard practice is not to discuss its sources and methods, it is important to understand that sources provide valuable information regarding criminal activity and national security matters,” the statement reads.

The New York Times report adds that the FBI “had an additional informant with ties to another Proud Boys chapter that took part in the sacking of the Capitol.”

“The records describing the informant’s account of Jan. 6 … dovetail with assertions made by defense lawyers who have argued that even though several Proud Boys broke into the Capitol, the group did not arrive in Washington with a preset plot to storm the building,” they note.

DEA Agent At The Capitol Riot

Aside from an FBI informant being in the crowd at the Capitol riot, The Political Insider reported in July that an off-duty DEA agent had been arrested after federal prosecutors accused him of brandishing his government-issued firearm during the January 6 protest.

Mark Ibrahim, a California resident and reportedly a “probational employee” of the DEA at the time, had been charged with multiple crimes, including making a false statement and carrying a firearm on restricted grounds.

Reuters reported in early August that the FBI has found little evidence to suggest that the Capitol riot was coordinated.

“The FBI has found scant evidence that the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol was the result of an organized plot to overturn the presidential election result, according to four current and former law enforcement officials,” they wrote.

That hasn’t stopped the Democrat-led select committee from investigating the events as if they were coordinated by Republicans, including President Trump.

Last week, the committee issued subpoenas to four former aides to the former President.

The four committed the crime of “working in or (having) communications with the White House on or in the days leading up to the January 6th insurrection.”

Perhaps they should have sent subpoenas to members of the FBI.

Thus far, the Reuters report and the new FBI informant details show there was no insurrection but rather, an unruly mob who got caught up in the events of the day.
