WASHINGTON, DC - JULY 20: (L-R) Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions, Acting FBI Director Andrew McCabe other law enforcement officials hold a news conference to announce an 'international cybercrime enforcement action' at the Department of Justice July 20, 2017 in Washington, DC. President Donald Trump said Wednesday in an interview with the New York Times that he never would have appointed Sessions had he known Sessions would recuse himself from overseeing the investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election. "Sessions should have never recused himself, and if he was going to recuse himself, he should have told me before he took the job and I would have picked somebody else," Trump said. A bombshell report this afternoon from NBC, which is reporting that FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe is stepping down from the agency. This is huge news.

Here is the NBC report, via Axios:

FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe is stepping down, effective today, multiple sources familiar with the matter told NBC News. NBC reports that McCabe will “remain on the FBI payroll until he is eligible to retire with full benefits in mid-March.”

There were reports last month that McCabe planned to retire in the coming months. NBC’s Pete Williams notes that in addition to the distraction caused by criticism from President Trump, McCabe may be anticipating the release of an inspector general’s report on how the FBI handled the Clinton email investigation.

It can’t be stressed how important this news is. Republicans have been raising a huge fuss in recent days over the impropriety that appears to have gone on within the FBI as it was investigating Hillary Clinton’s illegal use of a private email server.

As the Axios report suggets, an inspector general’s report on the FBI’s Clinton probe is expected to be released soon. Could McCabe be trying to escape fallout from the report?

Some are speculating this resignation has big implications as it relates to the ongoing Trump-Russia investigation currently being pursued by Special Counsel Robert Mueller.

What Davis is referring to is an article published earlier today alleging that McCabe deliberately set up the Trump White House to be smeared by the media on an issue related to the Russia investigation. You can check out that story here.

Share this breaking news with others now. Something stinks at the FBI!
