Actor Denzel Washington Preaches Benefits Of Daily Bible Study

There are plenty of reasons to think famous actor Denzel Washington would be a liberal. He’s a talented black actor who has been a success in Hollywood with two Academy Awards! Statistics would make him highly likely to be an Obama-supporting secular liberal.

But that’s wrong! And Denzel’s comments about the Bible and his relationship with the Holy Scripture are extraordinary. He is a patriot, and is unafraid to reject the radical atheists on the Left Coast.

As he said in an interview, Denzel Washington is a proud Christian:

“I read from the Bible every day, and I read my Daily Word,” he told a reporter, adding that it was not difficult for him to grow up as the son of a preacher.

“He wasn’t a taskmaster, but there were certain things you couldn’t do,” Washington said. “He had his own church, and it was a long Sunday, because you had to be there all day.”

“Everyone I grew up with didn’t have a father,” he continued. “I had a father. My father was a decent man. He was a very spiritual man and a gentleman.”

He didn’t like going to Church when he was younger. But then he had a truly personal experience with Jesus Christ. And the rest is history!

“The minister was preaching, ‘Just let it go,’” Washington recalled. “I said, ‘I’m going to go with it.’ And I had this tremendous physical and spiritual experience.”

“It did frighten me,” he said. “I was slobbering, crying, sweating. My cheeks blew up. I was purging. It was too intense.”

He had plenty of questions – like any good Christian does – and he continues to pray on a daily basis to guide him through his career:

“It almost drove me away. I called my mother, and she said I was being filled with the Holy Spirit,” he recounted. “I was like, ‘Does that mean I can never have wine again?’”

Ever since that day, Washington has been a proud Christian, even going so far as to consider becoming a preacher.

“A part of me still says, ‘Maybe, Denzel, you’re supposed to preach. Maybe you’re still compromising,’” he said during a 1999 interview.

In the end, Washington decided to stick to playing preachers in the movies. He did, however, offer some creative advice for staying close to God every day.

“Put your slippers way under your bed so when you get up in the morning, you have to get on your knees to find them. And while you’re down there, start your day with prayer. Ask for wisdom. Ask for understanding,” he said. “Don’t aspire to make a living, aspire to make a difference.”

What a role model! He looks to a higher power, and is humbled by his God-given talents. By showing others how he lives his life, he is a great example for young people who might try to make it in Hollywood. No matter what, prayer and a personal relationship to God are essential to live a good life.

He is a role model for everyone who believe ….very inspiring.

A wonderful Christian man.

It is sickning to see what’s taking place in this world. TV schools and even churches are so corrupt. It is great to see someone in the TV business stand up for what’s right. Wish I could talk to him in person to give him some insight in building a stronger relationship with God and plan of salvation. Very proud of him for standing up for what’s right.

It is nice to see that Hollywood hasn’t ruined a good man.

Women were mentioning he was the best actor for years way before I seen denzel on the big screen. A decade after seeing denzel in a interview I know he is a great talent on the big screen and he seems he’s a better dad than he can mention with all the movies he has starred in and done an amazing job I know plenty of people support this this man including myself. Only god can just judge me

Preacher’s Wife was best movie he was in..not due to him but due to the best music ever in a movie namely Whitney Houston singing “I love the Lord”.

I am really glad you posted this. You hear so much about liberalism on the west coast you have a tendency to think all are that way. I would only hope that Danzel will have some great influence on his fellow actor friends. we live in trying times and actually we are close to the last 7 years.There are 5 prophecies concerning America in the bible and you need to be aware of them.

The author’s attempt to link secularism with liberalism and Obama support is ridiculous. The fact that a person rejects religious faith and worship does not automatically assign them any specific political status, and certainly doesn’t cause them to be a supporter of a so-called president like Obama, especially since he believes that he is the Messiah.

First of all, him being a Christian doesn’t mean that everything he does is good. I’m a Christian and not everything I do is good. So we should not hold him up as a role model. We should have one role-model: Jesus Christ. For instance, is God happy with the filth in some of Denzel’s movies? Do I support him? Only insomuch as he makes good movies. This article doesn’t say anything about his politics or views on social issues. It only says that he believes in God, had an experience, and reads his Bible a lot.

William, while I agree with you that it does not matter if you are religious or atheist on whether you live a good life, I am really tired of people getting so sensitive that they pull out the “offended” card. When a person identifies with others on their beliefs they point out those similarities. They don’t do it to criticize or offend.

I would like to humbly suggest that that statement is straight up false. I and many other atheists live just as good of lives as any religious people do. The definition of a good life is not defined by what you believe but by what you do with the time you’re given. @Christopher…It’s doesn’t necessarily make him a conservative. Maybe he is a Democrat (A Blue Dog.) The two major party’s are R’s & D’s. That is what makes this country work. Although, prior to the late 1960’s most African-Americans in the South voted Republican. He also happens to be one of the finest actor’s alive today. (Not to mention incredibly handsome.)

Yes, I support Denzel Washington. I have always like him as an actor, and it is a relief to be able to like someone’s work without having to think that off stage he is an idiot. I understand where he is coming from, because it is very close to my own background.
