Top Trump Admin Intelligence Official Ezra Cohen-Watnick – Fired! McMasters Being Shown the Door…

The White House is currently going through a massive shakeup. It was just announced that Ezra Cohen-Watnick, the senior director for intelligence on the National Security Council, has been fired.

The inside scoop is Cohen-Watnick’s fate was probably sealed due to the fact that he was hired under the short tenure of former Gen. Michael Flynn as National Security Adviser. Gen. McMaster has sought to eliminate individuals who were appointed under Flynn.

This is a big deal:

“[National Security Advisor] Gen. McMaster appreciates the good work accomplished in the NSC’s Intelligence directorate under Ezra Cohen’s leadership,” a White House official said.

“He has determined that, at this time, a different set of experiences is best-suited to carrying that work forward,” the official continued. “Gen. McMaster is confident that Ezra will make many further significant contributions to national security in another position in the administration.”

And Cohen-Watnick was not the only major National Security Council official to be fired on Wednesday. Rich Higgins, a close ally of Steve Bannon’s, was also dismissed after writing a controversial memo which indicated “deep state” actors were waging “political warfare” against the president.

But the biggest story is H.R. McMaster himself is likely on his way out. Trump is looking at replacing him with CIA Director Mike Pompeo… while shipping McMaster to Afghanistan!

President Trump is looking at shifting CIA Director Mike Pompeo to the White House as national security adviser, according to a report Wednesday evening.

The move would bump H.R. McMaster, the current national security adviser. McMaster, a three-star Army general, would in turn be sent to Afghanistan to command U.S. forces in that country, the New York Times reported, citing several unnamed administration officials. The move could help McMaster earn his fourth star.

Trump has reportedly expressed frustration with Gen. John Nicholson Jr., the top U.S. general in Afghanistan, because the U.S. and its allies are not “winning” the war there.

The White House shuffle, if it came to pass, would be the latest in a string of staffing changes, including the exit of Reince Priebus as chief of staff. He was replaced by John Kelly, a retired general who had been serving as secretary of homeland security.
