Ex-Governor Andrew Cuomo Has His Emmy Award Taken Back

Less than 24 hours after resigning in disgrace as governor of New York, Andrew Cuomo received more bad news – The International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences is rescinding his Emmy award.

The Academy cited the sexual harassment scandal that forced the Democrat to resign late Monday night as the reasoning.

They revealed their decision in a statement Tuesday afternoon.

“The International Academy announced today that in light of the New York Attorney General’s report, and Andrew Cuomo’s subsequent resignation as Governor, it is rescinding his special 2020 International Emmy® Award,” the statement reads.

“His name and any reference to his receiving the award will be eliminated from International Academy materials going forward,” they conclude.

Cuomo Stripped Of His Emmy

Cuomo, once the darling of the media for his supposed masterful handling of the pandemic, was notified that he’d been chosen to win the Emmy last year.

“The Governor’s 111 daily briefings worked so well because he effectively created television shows, with characters, plot lines, and stories of success and failure,” the academy’s president and CEO, Bruce Paisner, said at the time.

“People around the world tuned in to find out what was going on, and New York tough became a symbol of the determination to fight back.”

But ‘New York tough’ turned into New York tragedy as, despite the media’s efforts to prop him up as America’s savior, reality showed he had failed the people of the Empire State.

Especially seniors.

New York is second in the nation for COVID deaths per 100,000 people and most notably saw over 15,000 seniors succumb to the pandemic thanks in large part to an Executive Order issued by Cuomo.

Didn’t Have The Award Stripped Over Nursing Home Scandal

What’s remarkable is that the Academy made the decision to award Cuomo an Emmy a full eight months after he issued an executive order which forced nursing homes to take on patients that had tested positive for coronavirus.

This past June, the NYSBA (New York State Bar Association) Task Force on Nursing Homes and Long-Term Care determined that the executive order policy led to “some number of additional deaths.”

Yet that wasn’t enough for the Academy to rescind his Emmy.

Fox News meteorologist and author Janice Dean, who lost her in-laws to coronavirus in New York, was disgusted with the news that Cuomo had won an Emmy.

“To think that the governor was going through some of his TV appearances talking about deaths in New York and submitting those videos to the Emmy folks really makes me physically sick,” she said at the time.

While it may seem like a small reprimand for a man who just lost his seat as Governor of New York, losing an Emmy is no doubt a significant blow to Cuomo’s ego.

This is, after all, the same man who got paid $5.1 million to write about a book about his COVID ‘leadership’ and sold a cartoonish poster celebrating New York’s response, and even made a paper mache mountain to show how they ‘flattened’ the curve.

Dean meanwhile tweeted her delight at the news that Cuomo had his Emmy award taken away.

“The fact that [Cuomo] got an Emmy and then it was taken away is just a great ending to a story,” she wrote.
