Ex-Clinton White House Spokesman: Biden Shouldn’t Debate Trump

Biden Trump

Bill Clinton’s former press secretary Joe Lockhart just said that Joe Biden should no-show the upcoming presidential debates.

In an op-ed for CNN, Lockhart says the presumptive 2020 Democratic presidential candidate should just ignore the three debates.

Lockhart: ‘Whatever you do, don’t debate Trump’

“Whatever you do, don’t debate Trump,” Lockhart wrote. “Trump has made more than 20,000 misleading or false statements according to the Washington Post. It’s a fool’s errand to enter the ring with someone who can’t follow the rules or the truth.”

“Biden will undoubtedly take heat from Republicans and the media for skipping the debates,” Lockhart said. “But it’s worth the risk as trying to debate someone incapable of telling the truth is an impossible contest to win.”

Lockhart tweeted on Sunday, “Debating @realDonaldTrump is like debating the last drunk in a bar at closing time. Anybody ever win one of those debates. We built a wall and Mexico paid for it. We’ve beaten the invisible enemy. Nobody’s been tougher on Russia. Get me one more drink bartender.”

Former Hillary Clinton adviser: ‘Trump is not a legitimate candidate’

Lockhart isn’t the first Democrat to make the same observation regarding Biden and the debates.

Former Hillary Clinton senior adviser, Zac Petkanas, tweeted last week that Biden should ignore the debates because Trump is not a “legitimate candidate.”

“My opinion that no one asked for: Biden shouldn’t feel obligated to throw Trump a lifeline by granting him any debates at all,” Petkanas wrote on Twitter. “This is not a normal presidential election and Trump is not a legitimate candidate.”

Mike Huckabee: ‘Joe’s got to show up’

Former Republican Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee has noted that this Democrat notion of just skirting the debates is bunk.

“Joe’s got to show up,” Huckabee told Fox News on Sunday.

But Huckabee also said he understood why Democrats didn’t want Biden on any debate stage.

“If I were Joe Biden, I’d want to stay off the stage,” he said. “There’s no way he can stand on the stage with President Trump and survive.”

Huckabee: Biden can’t just hide

“You can’t run for president, you can’t be president and just say, ‘Let me know when this is all over because right now I’m in the hidey-hole, I plan to stay there until this all blows over,” Huckabee said, referring to what many call Biden’s “basement” campaign during the coronavirus pandemic.

“It doesn’t work like that,” Huckabee said. “So yeah, he’s got to show up, and if he doesn’t, if he chickens out of the debate and refuses to go to the stage with President Trump, then I think it really hurts him.”

The first of three presidential debates is scheduled for Sept. 29.
