Sometimes it gets old, but sometimes it’s just damn funny. This instance of media mockery falls into the latter category.
Team Trump is holding a contest to nominate the ‘FAKEST of Fake News’ stories in 2017.
The Trump Make America Great Again Committee, a joint fundraising committee authorized by and composed of Donald J. Trump for President, Inc. and the Republican National Committee, sent out an email yesterday asking people to vote.
The idea started, as most do, with a simple tweet:
We should have a contest as to which of the Networks, plus CNN and not including Fox, is the most dishonest, corrupt and/or distorted in its political coverage of your favorite President (me). They are all bad. Winner to receive the FAKE NEWS TROPHY!

There’s certainly a plethora of stories to choose from, but in case you were having trouble, the committee provided some examples.
- CNN’s ‘bombshell’ on Donald Trump Jr. supposedly having access to Wikileaks documents.
- ABC News report on Michael Flynn directing candidate Trump to make contact with the Russians, which was false.
- Or Time Magazine’s fabrication about the President removing a bust of Martin Luther King, Jr.
“At President Trump’s request, we are holding a contest to name the 2017 KING of Fake News. And we want to hear from you,” the email states.
There’s even a write-in section for you to select your own fake news story. Voters are asked to choose if each story is ‘fake,’ ‘faker,’ or ‘fakest’ news, or if there is another description.
The winner will presumably win a nice gold trophy as well, which is as real as most media stories these days.
Like clockwork, the media responded to the contest by reporting on the wrong story. No, they didn’t do an introspection on their industry consistently producing false material. They instead complained that the President would fundraise off of ‘fake news.’

Journalism is clearly dead in this country.
“There’s no point in pretending that some journalists are anything more than peddlers of falsehoods and liberal propaganda,” the committee email reads.
