Earlier this week, a Michigan man was arrested for threatening to go on a killing spree at CNN’s Atlanta headquarters. And on Tuesday night, CNN anchor Don Lemon flat-out blamed President Donald Trump for the threat.
According to court documents, 19-year-old Brandon Griesemer was taken into FBI custody after allegedly calling CNN’s headquarters 22 times. While he started off by taunting operators with accusations of “fake news,” the calls eventually escalated to full-scale threats. “I’m coming to gun you down,” Griesemer allegedly said. “I am coming to Georgia right now to go to the CNN headquarters to f*cking gun every single last one of you.”
After the news broke, Lemon blamed Trump for Griesemer’s unhinged behavior. “There’s nothing random about this. Nothing. This is what happens when the president of the United States, Donald Trump, repeatedly attacks members of the press simply for reporting facts he does not like,” Lemon said. “I’ve heard from a number of very credible sources from within the White House that you watch this show. So, Mr. President, I’m going to speak directly to you: The caller who threatened to kill CNN employees made his threat using these words: ‘Fake news.’ … I wonder where he got those words.”

It’s certainly true that Trump popularized the term “fake news,” which has become something of a rallying cry among his supporters. However, blaming Trump for Griesemer’s threats is ridiculous. He seems to have been unstable for quite some time; according to a former classmate, Griesemer proclaimed that he “kind of identified with the Nationalist Socialist Party” and believed “the Holocaust was exaggerated.”
But Trump is an easy scapegoat for liberals, and they’ll use him every chance they get.
