Reporters love bashing President Donald Trump, and they absolutely love getting celebrities to join in on the Trump-bashing party. However, ABC’s David Wright learned the hard way that country music icon and all-around saint Dolly Parton will not stand for insulting the President of the United States.
During an interview for Thursday’s episode of “Nightline,” Wright asked Parton about her role in the classic 1980 film “9 to 5″ as a means of trying to get Parton to admit that Trump is a misogynist.
“The sexist, egotistical, lying, hypocritical [boss] portrayed so effectively in that movie by actor Dabney Coleman hasn’t exactly disappeared from the culture. We have a president of the United States who said the things on that bus,” Wright said, referring to the unearthed 2005 in which Trump bragged to former Access Hollywood host Billy Bush about his treatment of women.
But Parton was having none of Wright’s slimy segue. “I’m not addressing that. I do not get into that. Of course, I have my opinion about everybody and everything,” she said. “But I learned a long time ago, keep your damn mouth shut if you want to stay in show business,” she added. “I’m not in politics. I am an entertainer.”
Not satisfied with that answer, Wright continued to push Parton, saying, “yet, you’re also a role model.”
And that’s when Parton shut him down – hard. “Yes, I am. That’s why I don’t talk about people,” she said.

As previously stated: Parton is a saint and a true role model. It’s unfortunate that more members of Hollywood haven’t followed her example, including her own co-stars. During the Emmy’s, Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin, who also starred in “9 to 5,” had no problem bashing Trump. “In [9 to 5], we refused to be controlled by a sexist, egotistical, lying, hypocritical bigot. And in 2017, we still refuse to be controlled by a sexist, egotistical, lying, hypocritical bigot,” they proclaimed on stage.
But Dolly is better than that.
