During the last failed attempt by congressional Republicans to repeal Obamacare, the Left’s fear-mongering was out in full force.
“Twenty million people will lose healthcare” we were told. But would they? Lose insurance, certainly, but insurance is not health care (and most of those who would’ve “lost” coverage would’ve done so voluntarily in absence of Obamacare’s individual mandate). After all, what kind of insurance did Obamacare provide? Deductibles for individuals enrolled in the lowest-priced Obamacare health plans have deductibles topping $6,000 this year.
In other words, they’ll have to spend $6,000 before they can even use their health insurance. That’s crazy expensive, and not the kind of insurance a sane person would buy. What they’ve truly been granted is a catastrophic plan presented to them as health insurance.
The fact that Republicans let Democrats get away with portraying the loss of garbage health insurance plans as “taking away people’s health care” just shows how effective the language of the Left is. And it allowed them to deflect from Obamacare’s failures – such as Obama’s promise that the law would reduce premiums by $2,500 per family. Premiums have increased by more than that amount!
Remember, when it comes to health care in America, the problem isn’t quality, it’s price. But how do we get costs down and do so while expanding access?
