Do You Think These 6 Texas State Republicans Are Retiring Because Of Trump?

Whether you know it or not, an estimated 40 percent of Republican members of Congress have left office since President Trump won the 2016 general election.

Of all places, I don’t think Texas would be the place to lose too many Republicans as the Democrats have been trying to turn that state for years. Democrats have New York, they also have California. If they gain Texas, Republicans could be in trouble for many years to come which is why this news is essential.

According to the Texas Tribune, six GOP representatives have chosen not to seek reelection in the state.

On Monday, Rep. Mac Thornberry, R-Clarendon, announced he would be stepping down from his seat after this term. The statement he releases said: “It has been a great honor for me to represent the people of the 13th District of Texas for the last 25 years.”

“We are reminded, however, that ‘for everything there is a season,’ and I believe that the time has come for a change. Therefore, I will not be a candidate for reelection in the 2020 election.”

“With over a year to go, I will continue to represent the people of the 13th District to the best of my ability. Our nation faces many difficult challenges, and none of us can relax our efforts to meet and overcome them, whether at home or around the world.”

Thornberry joins Reps. Kenny Marchant, Pete Olson, Mike Conaway, Will Hurd, and Bill Flores.

If you’re looking for signals that Republicans know they won’t win back the House, look no further than these retirements. Many of them are in safe Republican districts, which means that they would have been reelected. The chances are that another Republican will win these districts. The retiring Republicans know that being in the House minority is on par with being the vice president. They have no say or influence on House legislation. Since they know that the House will stay in Democratic hands, they are going to go “spend time with their families.” That’s code for getting a job as a lobbyist.

While I am in favor of term limits after seeing our present freshmen members of the house, it does concern me that as voters we need to make sure we are electing people that do have some knowledge of how government works and not just individuals with unrealistic ideas that are seeking media attention.

Neither the Democrat or the Republican Party are anywhere near as good as they used to be. I remember when Americans could rely on members of both parties to come together and do what was in the best interest of OUR COUNTRY and OUR PEOPLE. But many of them (members of both parties) have succumbed to MONEY no matter who or where it comes from if feels like they are selling our country out from under us little by little.
