Mexican Official: No Rise in Deportations Under President Trump

The protests haven’t stopped since Donald Trump won the election, and they’ve only managed to get more hysterical following the inauguration as it turns out that Trump actually plans on following through with his campaign promises (shocker!).

Immigration is one of those issues bringing out the worst of the Left, particularly because those who don’t respect our immigration laws tend not to respect our other laws either. Yes – there really is a pro-illegal immigration movement in this country. Just take a look at the headlines:

  • Boston Protesters Respond Quickly to Trump’s Sanctuary City Vow – The Metro
  • Protests erupt outside Phoenix ICE office after arrest of illegal immigrant – Fox News
  • Immigrant-Rights Rallies Held in 50 U.S. Cities: Activists say Saturday’s protests kick off new phase of activism in defiance of Donald Trump’s pledge to crack down on illegal immigration – The Wall Street Journal
  • California Lawmakers to Fight Trump on [Illegal] Immigration – ABC News

Are these people complete kooks? For a number of reasons – and not just their support of illegal immigration. If they’re going to protest deportation, their timing is off, as the real raids haven’t even yet begun. In fact, there’s been no significant rise in deportations thus far (which will obviously change in the future).

Mexico’s Foreign Minister Luis Videgaray said on Monday there has not been a rise yet in the number of deportations of Mexicans from the United States under President Donald Trump, but that consulates were receiving more worried phone calls.

Videgaray said in a television interview that the number of deported Mexicans was following the same trends as last year, and was even slightly lower.

He said Mexican consulates in the United States have received at least three times as many daily phone calls from worried citizens there as before news of possible ramped-up deportations under Trump.

“It’s grown exponentially,” said Videgaray, adding that people were calling with questions, complaints and worries about the process rather than because of the number of raids.

If there hasn’t yet been a significant rise in deportations, where were these protesters who are currently protesting the status quo last year? Did the deportations then not count because they were under a Democrat? While there are undoubtedly many on the far-far-left who criticized deportations under Obama, it’s sickening to see how many people will champion the rights of illegal immigrants solely because they oppose Donald Trump.

It’s like burning your own house down (or in this case, your own country) to spite someone else. Then again, if there was any logic behind what liberals believed, they wouldn’t be liberals.
