Democrats Turn On Biden – Three Different Committees Vowing To Investigate Afghanistan Disaster

Senate Democrats Demand Accountability Over Biden Afghanistan Catastrophe

Three Senate Democrat-led committees say they will begin investigations into the Biden administration’s complete bungling over the U.S. troop withdrawal in Afghanistan.

Democrats who have rarely, if ever, criticized Biden are now demanding accountability.

The Senate Intelligence, Foreign Relations, and Armed Services Committees have all released critical statements of the Biden administration’s performance.

Biden Not Finding Many Friends In DC

At the beginning of July, during a press conference, Biden was asked if a takeover by the Taliban was imminent. His response, “No, it is not.”

Clearly, something is amiss.

Sen. Bob Menendez (D-NJ), chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations committee said, “I am disappointed that the Biden administration clearly did not accurately assess the implications of a rapid U.S. withdrawal. We are now witnessing the horrifying results of many years of policy and intelligence failures.”

Menendez has pledged a “full accounting.” He said, “To see this army dissolve so quickly after billions of dollars in U.S. support is astounding,” Menendez added. “The American and Afghan people clearly have not been told the truth about the ANDSF’s capacity and deserve answers.”

Senate Intelligence Committee chair Sen. Mark Warner (D-VA) says he is prepared to “ask tough but necessary questions about why we weren’t better prepared for a worst-case scenario involving such a swift and total collapse of the Afghan government and security forces.”

Democrat Leadership Backs Biden

While some committee chairman have critical, Democrat leadership has circled the wagons around Biden.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi was completely on board with Team Biden. She said that Biden “is to be commended for the clarity of purpose of his statement on Afghanistan and his action.”

Sen. Dick Durbin (D-IL) appeared to take a swipe at Republicans saying, “those who sat silently when Donald Trump pursued a hasty U.S. withdrawal and now cry howls of outrage reek of hypocrisy.”

Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer has also defended Biden’s actions. He has issued White House talking points to Senators. During a conference call with fellow Democrats, Nancy Pelosi has urged House members to get behind Biden.

2022 Coming Soon

While the Biden administration is hoping that the aftermath of the fall of Afghanistan will go away soon, campaigns for the 2022 midterms start very soon.

Ranking Democrat members of committees calling for investigations does not help the party unite for 2022.

In addition to Senate investigations, House Foreign Affairs Chair Gregory Meeks (D-NY) has requested that Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin and Secretary of State Antony Blinken to testify “as soon as possible.”
