Remember the “Russian hacking” hysteria from the left after Hillary lost the presidential election? It’s back!
The resurgence of the hysteria that Russia is hijacking our democracy (because they supported the American presidential candidate who didn’t want to go to war with Russia) is going to be a major story for the next few weeks, mainly because of Michael Flynn’s resignation as Trump’s National Security Advisor after it was discovered he lied about phone conversations he had been having with Russia’s ambassador to the U.S.
Then came a New York Times story which claimed to uncover more evidence of interaction between those close to Trump and Russia going back a year. Their article begins by stating that, “Phone records and intercepted calls show that members of Donald J. Trump’s 2016 presidential campaign and other Trump associates had repeated contacts with senior Russian intelligence officials in the year before the election, according to four current and former American officials” – but it becomes evident how flimsy their case is just a few more paragraphs in.
In just the third paragraph we learn that “The officials interviewed in recent weeks said that, so far, they had seen no evidence of such cooperation [between Russia and the U.S.] So – what’s the point of the story? Who knows. Both Trump and the Putin branded the story as fake.
This Russian connection non-sense is merely an attempt to cover-up the many mistakes made in Hillary Clinton’s losing campaign.

So, case closed there, right? Nope – Democrats aren’t ready to let this one die, and are now calling for expanding an already existing federal probe investigating any role Russia may have had in the election. Unfortunately for them, for all the whining we can expect, it’s unlikely to materialize.
The Republican majority isn’t going to play games with their conspiracy theories:
House Intelligence Chairman Devin Nunes, in a Wednesday morning interview with POLITICO, reacted angrily to calls for a new probe following a New York Times bombshell report about such communications. The California Republican vowed to continue his panel’s ongoing probe of Russia, but accused Democrats of politicizing the issue.
“The Democrats can play their politics all they want; they’re welcome to do that, this is Washington,” he said. “But as far as I’m concerned, we will continue to investigate the Russian activity like we’ve done for many years.”
When asked about the possibility of a select committee, Nunes added: “There is not going to be one; I can tell you there is absolutely not going to be one. And I am not going to be lectured by people who are speaking out of both sides of their mouths.”

An intelligence committee is already investigating an alleged Russian role in the U.S. election – and while there have been claims that they’ve found evidence of Russian meddling, there’s nothing connecting that to Trump. As I said earlier, the only real case to be made is that Russia acted to thwart a candidate because she was using them to warmonger. Who can blame them?
