Mitch McConnell Warns About Democrats ‘Moving The Goal Post’ On Kavanaugh Investigation

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell warned from the Senate floor Monday that Democrats will not be satisfied with the FBI’s investigation into sexual misconduct allegations against Judge Brett Kavanaugh, regardless of the outcome.

“The Democratic leader and the ranking Democrat on the [Senate Judiciary] Committee both said recently that an FBI investigation can be completed in less than a week,” McConnell said. “But Mr. President, I’d bet almost anything that after it runs its course in the next few days, we will then be treated to a lecture that anything short of a totally unbounded fishing expedition of indefinite duration is too limited or too arbitrary or somehow insufficient.”

The Senate Judiciary Committee convened Friday to vote on advancing Kavanaugh’s Supreme Court nomination to the full Senate and gave a 11-10 recommendation in a party-line vote.Republican Sen. Jeff Flake of Arizona voted “yes” with the condition that an FBI probe would conduct an investigation, limited to a week, into Christine Blasey Ford’s accusation against Kavanaugh.

“We all know that’s coming,” McConnell continued. “If you listen carefully, Mr. President, you can practically hear the sounds of the Democrats moving the goal post.”
