Tennessee Democratic Rep. Steve Cohen made an ill-advised analogy this week, comparing Donald Trump’s presidency to the tragic fire that tore through the Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris.
The cathedral suffered significant damage when a fire broke out during renovations on Monday, burning for nearly 15 hours and causing serious structural devastation, including the destruction of the iconic spire.
While many mourned the loss of a national, world, and religious icon, Cohen saw an opportunity to disparage a President he and his party despise.
The Democrat lawmaker spoke with MSNBC’s Chris Matthews on Monday, providing commentary about the soon-to-be-released Mueller report.
Like the fire that ravaged Notre Dame, Cohen claimed, so to is Trump “torching” the government.
“What he has done to the Constitution and the rule of law is as bad as that fire did to Notre Dame,” Cohen asserts. “He’s torching the entire structure of government and the people’s respect for it. And the Congress needs to act.”
Our understanding is that such incendiary rhetoric is an incitement to violence against the President, as it allegedly was in the case of Rep. Ilhan Omar.
Somebody on Cohen’s staff needs to pull him aside and let the congressman know that hyperbole is not his strong point. Aside from comparing Trump to the fire that destroyed Notre Dame he has:
Cohen’s willingness to use irresponsible rhetoric to make the President look bad is a classic symptom of Trump Derangement Syndrome (TDS).
He represents the impeachment wing of the Democrat party, having introduced articles in 2017 over the President’s reaction to violence in Charlottesville, Virginia.
During the current session, Cohen has implied he has more than enough cause to bring articles of impeachment forward yet again.
“I think there’s a case for obstruction. There’s a case for emoluments violation,” Cohen claimed without evidence. “We’re getting so far along in seeing what this president has done and what he has done to the Constitution — what he’s done to the people’s respect for government.”

let him
Tell me the specifics about how Trump is damaging the Constitution.
Cohen is just an old Tennessee hippy that has done too many drugs in his lifetime and is just hovering above coherent thought.
I hope he does not get reelected.
OH BOO HOO WHINER STEVE. YOU AREN'T GOING TO BE A REP SOON ANYWAY
Mike, you have to see the video of her nearly crying over one of her plants that is "root bound." She is a true nut job!
So let me guess. We're supposed to take someone who doesn't even know how to come his hair seriously?
Don't remember the movie, but there is a line "Show me the money". Well Mr. I'll Give You a Purple Heart, Peter and Adam, the Sieve, Schiff show us the proof.
Cohen is a hateful person. It’s not Trump trampling on the Constitution, it’s Democrats/Socialists/Liberals trying to shut down free speech (First Amendment) and remove the Second Amendment. I wish Memphis & Shelby County, TN would wake up and elect someone who actually cares about Tennessee and not just parroting the talking points of the DNC.
As usual the Dem's blame others for what they've done to our Constitution and way of law. Which side says the Constitution is out dated, and needs to go ? Frankly, if we'd have followed it, it's as good today as when written. But the Dem's don't like rules and laws which don't fit their agenda. To me many of our politicians take an oath to protect and preserve our Constitution, but don't in reality. So, who are these domestic terrorists ? Most should be charged with dereliction of duty. I learned our government representatives were to read bills, advise us of them and then vote on it as we say, not how that individual or party likes ! We no longer have representation and this is one reason we are failing.
