Democrat NY AG Letitia James Now Bails Out Of Governor’s Race After Taking Down Cuomo

New York State Attorney General Letitia James suspended her brief gubernatorial campaign within hours of announcing a deposition request for former President Donald Trump.

New York State Attorney General Letitia James suspended her brief gubernatorial campaign within hours of announcing a deposition request for former President Donald Trump.

James, who as AG was responsible for the sexual harassment investigations that took down governor Andrew Cuomo, said the reason for her bailing out of the race is due to a desire to instead focus on the ongoing investigations her office is currently working on.

“I have come to the conclusion that I must continue my work as attorney general,” she announced. “There are a number of important investigations and cases that are underway, and I intend to finish the job.”

James said she would run for re-election as Attorney General.

Letitia James Targeting Trump

Letitia James’ announcement comes within hours of announcing a move to get a deposition from former President Trump in her civil probe into possible fraud by the Trump Organization.

NBC reports that James’s office is investigating whether or not the organization committed fraud by underreporting the value of properties to banks and tax authorities.

The Washington Post first reported on the deposition which is being sought for January 7th.

One source told the Post that Letitia James is examining whether widespread fraud “permeated the Trump Organization.”

The Trump Organization issued a statement calling James’ investigation a “political witch-hunt.”

“The only focus of the New York AG is to investigate Trump, all for her own political ambitions. … This political prosecution is illegal, unethical and is a travesty to our great state and legal system,” they wrote.

Helped Take Down Cuomo

New York Attorney General Letitia James played an integral role in bringing about the downfall of disgraced former Governor Andrew Cuomo.

James released a report in August that claimed Cuomo “sexually harassed multiple women” and “violated federal and state law.”

She never brought charges, but the report is widely credited with bringing enough political pressure on Cuomo to eventually force his resignation.

Cuomo spokesman Rich Azzopardi has repeatedly referred to James’ report as a “politically motivated sham.”

“Tish James used her office to attack the Governor for her own political benefit,” Azzopardi said just prior to her announcement that she would run.

That announcement came less than two months ago.

The notion that James has aspirations for higher office is definitively accurate, despite the fact that Cuomo should have been impeached or removed from office for several ongoing scandals.

A recent report by the New York Post revealed that Cuomo is currently under investigation by the Department of Justice (DOJ) over the sexual harassment claims as well as the “administration’s handling of the COVID-19 pandemic, its cover-up of nursing home deaths, and Cuomo’s $5.1 coronavirus memoir.”

The question now becomes – Is James seeking nationwide office by becoming the poster child for the resistance in going after the former President?

Or maybe it’s a little simpler than that.

A recent poll showed Kathy Hochul, who became Governor when Cuomo resigned, had 36 percent of democrats supporting her while James only had 18 percent.
