Colorado Governor Jared Polis – a Democrat – says he will not implement any new mask mandate in his state in response to the mild omicron variant, declaring the COVID emergency “over.”
“The emergency is over,” Polis told Colorado Public Radio late last week. “You know, public health [officials] don’t get to tell people what to wear. That’s just not their job.”
Officials “would say to always wear a mask because it decreases flu and decreases [other airborne illnesses],” he added. “But that’s not something that you require; you don’t tell people what to wear.”
“You don’t tell people to wear a jacket when they go out in winter and force them to [wear it],” Polis continued. “If they get frostbite, it’s their own darn fault.”
The liberal governor later clarified that he supports the public health decisions of local officials, but it no longer amounts to a state-level concern.
“Everybody had more than enough opportunity to get vaccinated,” Polis said.#Colorado Gov. @JaredPolis declared the #Pandemic “over” and at this point, it’s the unvaccinated’s “own darn fault” if they get sick from #COVID19. https://t.co/gHFhGzEoUg

Democrat Jared Polis – No Mask Mandate
Lest you thought he had completely come to his senses, Polis essentially said the unvaccinated are on their own from now on.
“Everybody had more than enough opportunity to get vaccinated,” he said. “Hopefully it’s been at your pharmacy, your grocery store, a bus near you, [or at] big events. At this point, if you haven’t been vaccinated, it’s really your own darn fault.”
Polis went on to say that being hospitalized while vaccinated is “very rare.”
Reuters on Friday reported that “most of the 43 COVID-19 cases caused by the Omicron variant identified in the United States so far were in people who were fully vaccinated, and a third of them had received a booster dose.”
Rochelle Walensky, director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), has said, “The [omicron variant] is mild.”

Polis The Model, Hochul The Tragedy
Polis’ move against any further mask mandates stands in opposition to New York Governor Kathy Hochul who forced residents of her state back into masks starting today.
“I share many New Yorkers’ frustration that we are not past this pandemic yet,” she said, implementing an indoor mask mandate despite indications that the new omicron variant is relatively tame.
Her actions indicate she doesn’t share in any of the frustration.
You “share” in our frustration? Is this you standing maskless behind a bunch of masked kids?
Were you sharing their frustration then?

A new study by the Cato Institute ranked states by their overall freedom ranking – a combination of personal and economic freedoms.
Colorado ranked #12.
New York came in dead last at #50. In fact, they write, New York has been the least free state in the country since their study began in 2000 – 21 years ago.
