Democrat Senator Squashes Latest Kavanaugh Smear Attempt By His Own Party

Senator Chris Coons (D-DE) tossed a heaping portion of cold water on the latest Democrat effort to smear and impugn the character of Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh.

The Democrats’ latest effort was a letter to Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley. The letter strongly insinuated there is evidence in previous FBI background checks on Kavanaugh related to inappropriate sexual behavior or alcohol abuse.

The letter referenced a tweet from the judiciary twitter account which stated “six FBI reports” had revealed there has never been “a whiff of ANY issue … related in any way to inappropriate sexual behavior or alcohol abuse.”

The Democrats, led by Illinois Senator Dick Durbin, claimed that statement was not true and demanded a retraction. Durbin’s actions created an impression that there WAS evidence of inappropriate behavior or alcohol abuse.

Grassley’s staff and Judiciary Republicans fired back asserting “nothing in the tweet is inaccurate or misleading.”

“The committee stands by its statement, which is completely truthful,” they wrote on social media. “More baseless innuendo and more false smears from Senate Democrats.”

If there was any doubt as to the authenticity of the Democrat allegations, one only need to look at Coons’ reaction upon hearing them. Coons was noticeably not one of the signatories on the letter. He appeared on CNN with Chris Cuomo and was questioned about the letter sent to Grassley.

When asked about the letter and its contents by CNN’s Chris Cuomo, Coons appeared to have no idea what was going on.

“What’s he (Durbin) talking about?” Cuomo asked.

“I don’t know,” Coons responded. “How recently was this posted, Chris?”

Cuomo followed up asking why nobody knew about Durbin’s insinuation that there was something in the previous background checks.

“Why is this coming out now? Why don’t I know what they’re talking about? Why don’t you?” he asked.

Coons responded, “That’s a great question. You know Judge Kavanaugh was before the Senate Judiciary Committee for confirmation hearings in 2004 and 2006, and I will have to go and look at what it is that Senator Durbin has posted and what he is implying here.”

Coons, in a later interview with Fox & Friends on Thursday morning, completely blew up the smear campaign.

“There is nothing in here that is some bombshell that is unknown,” he admitted.

The Congressman tore into Durbin as well, saying “This is not the sort of back and forth by the majority and the minority that is constructive, frankly.”

They don’t care about constructive back and forth. They don’t care about facts, or due process, or the presumption of innocence.

They only care about the end game – stopping a conservative judge from taking his place on the Supreme Court. They’ll lie, cheat, and steal all day long because, in the Democrats little minds, the ends will justify the means.
