By The Numbers: How ‘Defund The Police’ Failed Democrat-Run Cities

Democrat-run cities across America that embraced the ‘defund the police’ movement are now being forced to reconsider their position after being ravaged by crime waves over the past year.

A good portion of these cities are experiencing spikes in crime never before seen. FBI statistics show an uptick in violent crime nationally of 5.6% in 2020.

Murders alone in the U.S. increased by 30%.

‘Defund The Police’ City Crime Rates By The Numbers

The crime numbers being recorded in cities where defunding the police was the outcry don’t lie.

The Daily Caller points to Dallas, Texas as a prime example: the city council slashed roughly $150 million from the police budget and another $7 million from the police department’s overtime fund in 2020.

The same year saw a 25% jump in homicides in that city.

In Minneapolis, the site and epicenter of Floyd’s death and the subsequent protests, there were calls to abolish the police force. The Minneapolis City Council, on its way to actually doing so, cut the police budget by $7.7 million.

What followed was a whopping 72% increase in homicides in Minneapolis.

Rising Crime One Reason For Joe Biden’s Tanking Poll Numbers

Rising crime rates are also part of Joe Biden’s ever-decreasing poll numbers. If the numbers are accurate, Americans are not happy with Joe Biden.

ABC reports that the number of Americans who view crime as a serious problem is the highest its been in two decades – and only 38% approve of Biden’s handling of the issue.

According to RealClearPolitics averages, Biden’s job approval rating is down from 52.4% in mid-July to currently at 43.3%.

Biden lost 13 points since June, falling six points just in the last month. The Quinnipiac University poll has his approval/disapproval at 38/53.

From Law Enforcement To Politics

Since the death of George Floyd, and the movements to defund the police, and the results of that defunding, cops are becoming candidates for local and statewide offices.

They are Republicans and Democrats.

But they all have one thing in common, they are all former law enforcement officials, and they are gaining strong support, which seems to answer the question of where Americans come down on defunding the police.

Former Clark County, Nevada Sheriff and Chief of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department Joe Lombardo is a Republican candidate for Governor.

Former Detroit Police Chief James Craig is in the running to unseat Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer.

Bernalillo County New Mexico Sheriff Manny Gonzales, a Democrat, is challenging Democrat incumbent Mayor of Alburquerque Tim Keller, also a Democrat.

In New York City, an NYPD captain won the Democratic primary for Mayor – meaning he will be the next mayor of the city.

It seems safe to say that this point that ‘defund the police’ was unpopular for just about everyone except the far-left.
