CNN Host Accuses Black Conservative David Webb of ‘White Privilege’

On Tuesday morning, CNN’s Areva Martin accused Sirius XM and Fox News host David Webb of having “white privilege” because of his views on race.

But there was just one problem: Webb is black.

Webb held a debate on his radio program over what makes some more likely to find jobs while others have a harder time. Webb says that in his experience, he cares far more about someone’s experience in the field in which they apply than skin color.

“That’s a whole ‘nother long conversation about white privilege, the things that you have the privilege of doing, that people of color don’t have the privilege of,” Martin said of Webb’s comments.

“How do I have the privilege of white privilege?” Webb asked.

“David… by virtue of being a white male you have white privilege,” Martin began, when Webb interjected:

“Areva, I hate to break it to you, but you should’ve been better prepped. I’m black.”

Then Webb continued:

See, you went to white privilege. This is the falsehood in this. You went immediately with an assumption … You’re talking to a black man who started out in rock radio in Boston, who crossed the paths into hip-hop, rebuilding one of the greatest black stations in America, and went on to work for Fox News, where I’m told apparently blacks aren’t supposed to work, but yet you come with this assumption and you go to white privilege. That’s actually insulting!

“My people gave me wrong information,” Martin said, apologizing.

Webb responded, “This is part of the problem with driving the narrative around a construct like white privilege.” Webb says that such privilege exists, but color isn’t always the primary driving factor.

The exchange was humorous on one level, but offensive on another. It is telling that so many on the left will immediately jump to such accusations when maybe race or certain privileges some have in society have nothing to do with the issue at hand?

Maybe in the future, liberals should make sure a person is white before calling out their white privilege?
