Beto O’Rourke’s Former Regional Director Damien Jones Accused of Rape

Popular Democrat congressman Beto O’Rourke might be linked to a #MeToo controversy now that one of his top aides has reportedly been accused of rape.

Damien Jones, who recently served as Rourke’s regional political director during his recent run to unseat Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas, is named in a new lawsuit suit against Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee of Texas and and the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation for their handling of a rape allegation against him.

The Free Beacon reports:

A former CBCF intern alleges in the lawsuit that she was raped by Jones, who at the time was 30 years old and the CBCF’s intern coordinator, in October 2015 when she was 19 years old, according to BuzzFeed. The intern alleging Jones raped her is identified in court papers by the pseudonym Jane Doe.

According to the complaint, on Oct. 24, 2015, Jones invited Jane Doe to dinner, where she says he ordered a large quantity of drinks. She alleged that he then took her back to his home, poured more drinks, and that her memory became foggy about the rest of the night. She said she sent a series of text messages to a friend that night including, “Help,” “I’m want t[sic] to go home,” and “I’m ready to cry,” and told the friend she was with the intern coordinator but did not know where she was.

“Jane Doe said later that day she texted Jones to ask what happened, and he replied, “Nothing. You threw up everywhere. That’s it.,” Free Beacon continued.

There is no indication as to whether or not criminal charges were filed against Jones. The Free Beacon also notes that Jones did not comment to Buzzfeed after that publication requested a response to these allegations.

However, spokesperson for the O’Rourke campaign, Chris Evans, said in an email, “The Beto for Texas campaign was absolutely not aware of these allegations until today and no longer has a relationship with Damien Jones.”

Will these affect Beto O’Rourke, who many believe might run for president? Who knows. But it certainly doesn’t look good for anyone involved.
