Man Shoots Son on Thanksgiving After Argument Over NFL Players Kneeling During National Anthem

A North Carolina man was arrested for shooting his son following an altercation which stemmed from arguments over NFL players who kneel during the National Anthem.

According to arrest records, 51-year-old Jorge Luis Valencia Lamadri was charged with a felony count of assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury.

Lamadri had retrieved a shotgun when an argument between his two sons got out of hand.

How It Happened

According to accounts from family witnesses, the group had just gathered ’round for Thanksgiving dinner when 21-year-old Esteban Marley Valencia, and 27-year-old Felipe Miguel Valencia, got into a heated exchange over the right of NFL players to protest the anthem.

Sensing he could not control the young men, Lamadri took out his shotgun. But the NFL spat was just getting warmed up as Esteban, who had moved outside, began throwing patio furniture toward the family home, at his father, and at other family members.

Lamadri had been holding the firearm by the grip and claims he accidentally fired it after a water bottle had been thrown at him. He hit his son in the hand and leg.

Nothing quite says ‘Thanksgiving’ like flying patio furniture and gunshot wounds.

Trump Should Have Mediated

If only President Trump could have been at the Lamadri family home to help mediate the argument, he surely would have convinced whichever of the sons was defending the NFL kneelers that he was on the wrong side of the argument.

“Wouldn’t you love to see one of these NFL owners, when somebody disrespects our flag, to say, ‘Get that son of a b**** off the field right now,” he could have said, deftly dodging flying patio furniture.

“Out! He’s fired. He’s fired!'” he could have shouted as water bottles went flying.

To be fair, the President has intervened in out-of-control brawls in the past, rather successfully we might add.

The Fighting Family Was Just Emulating the NFL Players

Sure, using lawn chairs as flying projectiles and shooting people over disputes seems a bit extreme, but the family’s wild behavior is simply imitating what the NFL players – the very people they were fighting over – get involved with on an all-too-frequent basis.

Joseph Curl of the Daily Wire reports, a league player is arrested on average every seven days.

“The average time between arrests is just seven days,” Curl writes, “while the record without an arrest is slightly more than two months, at 65 days, according to NFLarrest.com, which ‘provides an interactive visualized database of National Football League player Arrests & Charges,’ the site says.”

Perhaps the father can use one of the NFL’s on-staff lawyers to help get out of his predicament.

Lamadri was released from custody after posting a $50,000 bond. The charges constitute a Class E felony under North Carolina law, and could lead to a sentence between 15 and 31 months if convicted.
