CNN’s Don Lemon Awkwardly Addresses Gov. Andrew Cuomo Scandal

On Tuesday, CNN anchor Don Lemon addressed New York Governor Andrew Cuomo’s sexual harassment scandal right after talking to the Democratic governor’s brother, his CNN colleague Chris Cuomo.

And it was awkward. To say the least.

Many viewers on social media pointed out that Chris said nothing about his brother’s scandal, which had been national news all day.

Chris Cuomo: ‘I Love You D-Lemon’

Lemon and Cuomo briefly discussed the January 6 riot at the Capitol, then Lemon said, “You know what? I love you, brother.”

Cuomo replied, “I love you D-Lemon.”

After Cuomo disappeared from the screen, another Cuomo emerged.

“The calls are getting louder and louder,” Lemon said. “This is what I’m talking about: top Democrats from New York to the White House calling on Governor Andrew Cuomo to resign.”

Lemon continued, “That in the wake of a bombshell report from the state’s attorney general that alleges the governor sexually harassed 11 women, including state employees and a state trooper.”

Media critic Steve Krakauer called the exchange as “journalistic whiplash” while NewsBusters news analyst Nicholas Fondacaro called the moment “unbelievable.”

Nicholas Fondacaro, a news analyst for the conservative Media Research Center, pointed out the lack of commentary about the scandal.

Chris Cuomo Skirts Brother’s Controversy

Chris Cuomo avoided his brother’s political woes, telling viewers “we’re focused on COVID here.”

Fox News reported, “Chris Cuomo previously apologized to his colleagues for putting them in a ‘bad spot’ and acknowledged he was in a ‘unique and difficult situation’ as the brother of the nation’s most prominent governor while being CNN’s star anchor, but he insisted I know where the line is.”

Back in March, after having previously covered his brother – and even interviewing him about his administration’s COVID policies – Chris said, “Obviously, I cannot cover it because he is my brother. Now, of course CNN has to cover it. They have covered it extensively and they will continue to do so.”

Chris famously showed his brother a gag giant q-tip when discussing COVID testing policies in 2020.
