Flashback: CNN Reporter Broadcasts from Stoner Party on New Year’s Eve

After not being funny at any point during the past 30 years, the comedy world finally banished Kathy Griffin after a stunt in which she held up a beheaded face President Donald Trump. As a result of scandal, her annual New Year’s Eve gig with Anderson Cooper at CNN is over. She didn’t get to drunkenly embarrass herself on the air this year, but the rest of CNN was quick to pick up the mantle in her place.

During a New Year’s show that you’d have to have been stoned to sit through, Randi Kaye reported back from the celebrations in Denver, Colorado, where marijuana is legal. More specifically, she reported from the appropriately named “Mile High City” on a “Cannibus” party, in which she joined marijuana enthusiasts, and showed off a gas-mask bong to hosts Anderson Cooper and Andy Cohen, who were probably nervously wondering to themselves why she was doing this.

“I just want to point out that this is all legal in Colorado,” Cooper said, smiling. Cooper’s co-host, Andy Cohen, enthusiastically praised the report.

Also during the broadcast, Kaye reported from a “puff, pass and paint party” where she appeared on-air holding a burning joint, though she did not take a pull from it. Given her behavior in the clips below, many are wondering if Kaye, in fact, had a few puffs of the stuff herself off camera.

The response was mostly negative, even from CNN’s own audience, many of whom were watching with children.

Fox News, meanwhile, paid tribute to the law enforcement and military during their NYE coverage, while promoting the Make A Wish Foundation.

Perhaps my favorite line from her “reporting” was the following: “We’re at a dispensary called the Medicine Man! I’m trying to remember where we are. Where am I?”

I’m not sure anyone else knew what was happening either.
