CNN Contributor Andrew Gillum Involved in Suspected Meth Incident

Andrew Gillum

Andrew Gillum, the former Democratic candidate for Florida Governor and CNN contributor, was involved in a suspected crystal meth incident in Miami Beach, police say.

“Under the Influence of an Unknown Substance”

Miami Beach Fire Rescue were called on early Friday morning to a hotel on West Avenue, where Gillum, 40, and two other men, Aldo Mejias, 56, and Travis Dyson, 30, were present. Meijas told police he provided his credit card to Dyson to rent the room, which Dyson did at 4 on Thursday afternoon. Meijas returned to the hotel at 11:07 PM, where he “discovered Travis Dyson and Andrew Gillum under the influence of an unknown substance.” According to the police report, Dyson opened the door and immediately collapsed onto the bed. Gillum was seen vomiting into the bathtub by Meijas.

Shortly after, Meijas saw Dyson having “difficulty breathing” – he then woke Dyson up, who then proceeded to vomit all over the bed and passed out again. Meijas began chest compressions and then called the police and fire rescue. When they arrived, they found “three small baggies” of suspected crystal meth in the room, and were unable to communicate with Gillum “due to his inebriated state.” Dyson was taken to hospital, and Gillum later “returned to his residence without incident.”

Gillum: “I Have Never Used Methamphetamines”

Gillum released a statement confirming that he had been drinking on Thursday night at a wedding, but denied dabbling in any crystal meth himself:

I was in Miami last night for a wedding celebration when first responders were called to assist one of my friends. While I had too much to drink, I want to be clear that I have never used methamphetamines. I apologize to the people of Florida for the distraction this has caused our movement. I’m thankful to the incredible Miami Beach EMS team for their efforts. I will spend the next few weeks with my family and appreciate privacy during this time.

There’s not much to say here really, other than to remark my utter lack of surprise at the situation! I doubt anything conclusive will come out in regards to Gillum’s involvement, but an up and coming Democrat being involved in an alleged drug-fuelled orgy? It would be shocking if we didn’t all know the current state of the Democratic party!
