Citigroup Demands Gun Sellers Restrict Sales Or Else

Get ready to find a new bank, because Citigroup has joined the growing corporate backlash against Americans’ gun rights.

The Wall Street bank announced Thursday that they will no longer work with firms that sell guns to customers who have not passed a background check or who are younger than 21. The new policy also bans the sale of bump stocks and high-capacity magazines.

The bank described the new rules as “common-sense measures,” because liberals just can’t seem to stop flogging that dead horse. Citigroup chief executive Michael L. Corbat even told the New York Times that their clients and investors want them to put these restrictions in place. “Banks serve a societal purpose — we believe our investors want us to do this and be responsible corporate citizens,” he said.

Ironically, Corbat described himself as “an avid outdoorsman and responsible gun owner.” Yet he doesn’t seem to know that federal law already bans the sale of pistols to anyone under 21.

The new policy would apply to clients who offer credit cards supported by Citigroup or borrow money or use banking services through the firm. The bank has a few gun manufacturing companies as clients, and affected companies will be asked to provide details about their product and distribution networks. If any business clients refuse to adhere to the new restrictions, Citigroup said that would work with them to “transition their business away.”

Citigroup’s decision follows similar anti-gun moves by several other companies in the wake of the Parkland shooting. Kroger announced that it will stop selling guns and ammunition at its Fred Meyer stores. Enterprise Holdings Inc. came under fire after ending a discount program for NRA members. Delta did the same – and it cost them $50 million. Citigroup shouldn’t be surprised when the same happens to them.
