Video Shows Chuck Schumer Arguing a Fence Will Make Border ‘Far More Secure’

A newly resurfaced video shows anti-wall Democrat Chuck Schumer advocating for a fence along the southern border because it will be a “far more secure” means to creating a “significant barrier to illegal immigration.”

Schumer’s speech was given at the 6th Annual Immigration Law and Policy Conference at Georgetown University on June 24th, 2009. The gathering was designed to discuss U.S. immigration policies and their impacts.

Schumer, far from his pro-illegal immigration stance of today, presented what he defined as ‘seven principles’ of immigration reform that he wanted to pass.

The speech is startling in its contrast with the open borders rhetoric Schumer now uses to attack President Trump.

Illegal immigration is wrong

The first comment that makes one do a double take is that Schumer actually thinks illegal immigration is wrong and that politically correct phrases like ‘undocumented’ actually do a disservice to the American people.

“The first of these seven principles is that illegal immigration is wrong, plain and simple,” Schumer explains. “When we use phrases like ‘undocumented workers,’ we convey a message to the American people that their government is not serious about combating illegal immigration, which the American people overwhelmingly oppose.”

He even goes so far as to expressly refer to them as “illegal aliens,” a term perfectly accepted as a governmental reference but which gives liberal pearl-clutchers an aneurysm if they hear it uttered today.

Are we in some sort of parallel universe today then, Chuck?

What a hypocrite.

That’s when he referred to the benefits of a fence at the southern border.

“Between 2005 and 2009, a vast amount of progress has been made on our borders and ports of entry,” Schumer claimed.

“This progress includes … construction of 630 miles of border fence that create a significant barrier to illegal immigration on our southern land border.”

In other words – Build the Wall! It works!

Chuck Schumer isn’t the only hypocrite

While Schumer is the most prominent Democrat to oppose border security today, his minions on the left have long held hypocritical views on the topic.

In 2003, Hillary Clinton argued that she was “adamantly against illegal immigrants” and that employers need to “stop employing illegal immigrants.”

During his 1995 State of the Union speech, Bill Clinton lamented the fact that “Americans … are rightly disturbed by the large numbers of illegal aliens entering our country.”

Many high-profile Democrats who now support illegal immigration also helped pass a law in 2006 that authorized the construction of a border wall that included lights, cameras, and sensors to enhance security – including then-senators Barack Obama, Joe Biden, and Hillary Clinton, 64 House Democrats and 23 Senate Democrats voted for that bill.

Now they’ve shut down the federal government because they refuse to provide funding for a wall or fence they once deemed essential to the security of the American people.
