The Fox News host Chris Wallace spoke out over the weekend to defend the Joe Biden administration for their communications efforts during the Afghanistan airlift.
Fox News host Sandra Smith kicked things off by paraphrasing Rep. Jake Ellzey (R-TX) as saying, “he appreciates the updates, but why are we getting spokespeople?”
“And it’s a fair question,” Smith said in agreement.
Wallace Sounds Off
Wallace, however, felt differently.
“We had the president for the better part a half an hour yesterday,” Wallace said, according to Salon. “Not only making a very heart-felt statement, but also taking a number of questions.”
“They can’t be giving speeches all of the time, they’ve got to be doing their job,” he continued. “Look, anybody can criticize what they want, but this week we’ve had the National Security Advisor, earlier this week we had the Secretary of State, we had the president yesterday for half an hour. I think we’re getting most of the answers we need.”
Wallace went on to tell Smith about a mantra that was said during his time as a White House correspondent.
“I spent six years in that briefing room and we used to say, ‘You don’t tell us how to cover the stories, we won’t tell you how to do your communications strategy,'” he said.
Wallace Attacks Biden
This comes days after Wallace said that the Biden presidency would be in jeopardy “if there is an attack on the U.S. homeland from Afghanistan after the withdrawal of all of our troops.”
“Remember back in 2009 — this is before Osama bin Laden was killed — when Joe Biden came in as the vice president to Barack Obama, there was a discussion that went on for weeks about what to do about Afghanistan, and the president ended up going with the military and surging tens of thousands of troops to Afghanistan,” Wallace said.
“Then-Vice President Biden was against that. In fact, said to President Obama, you are being rolled by the Pentagon. He felt at the time it should be a counterterrorism effort,” he added.
“We’re going to have zero troops, at least officially, on the ground, and that raises the real question, when they say, well, we have an over the horizon capability to take out ISIS-K, or Al Qaeda, or the Taliban,” he added. “I read somewhere today, someone saying it’s an over the horizon, over the horizon capability.”
“We are so diminished in our ability to deal with all the jihadists that will come into that part of the world, into Afghanistan, and that’s going to raise real questions,” Wallace continued.
“You know, as bad as yesterday was, the president can come back from that, but if there is an attack on the U.S. homeland from Afghanistan after the withdrawal of all of our troops — that could be curtains for the Biden presidency,” he concluded.
