Chris Wallace Confronts Liz Cheney About Trump Supporters – ‘Why Alienate Them?’
Days after she was ousted from her leadership position in the Republican Party, Rep. Liz Cheney (R-WY) went on Fox News to claim that the 74 million Americans who voted for former President Donald Trump were “misled” and “betrayed.”
Fox News host Chris Wallace confronted Cheney in this interview, asking why she decided to alienate “tens of millions of Republican voters who still support Donald Trump.”
“Those millions of people that you mention who supported the president have been misled,” Cheney replied, according to Yahoo News. “They’ve been betrayed. And certainly, as we see his continued action to attack our democracy, his continued refusal to accept the results of the last election, you see that ongoing danger.”
“He’s causing people to believe that they can’t count on our electoral process to convey the will of the people,” she added. “We have to be a nation of laws.”
Cheney Stands By Attacks On Trump
Cheney stood by her decision to attack Trump, saying that she is “firmly committed to leading this party back to a place where we believe and advocate on behalf of policies and substance.”
“I cannot imagine a more important issue than whether or not the Republican Party is going to be a party that embraces and defends the rule of law and Constitution,” Cheney said.
“I think that what we have seen over the course of the last couple of weeks is really the opening salvo in what is a battle for the soul of the Republican Party, a battle for the soul of our democracy. I intend to play a very big role in that,” she concluded.
Trump Slams Cheney
This comes after Trump himself spoke out to celebrate Cheney’s ousting.
Liz Cheney is a bitter, horrible human being,” Trump said in a statement, according to Yahoo News. “She has no personality or anything good having to do with politics or our country. She is a talking point for Democrats, whether that means the border, the gas lines, inflation, or destroying our economy.”
“She is a warmonger whose family stupidly pushed us into the never-ending Middle East Disaster, draining our wealth and depleting our great military, the worst decision in our country’s history,” Trump concluded. “I look forward to soon watching her as a paid contributor on CNN or MSDNC!”
